The Irma is a flash back in time, but the breakfast buffet is the best you can find in Cody. It doesn't take much imagination to see history in Cody's famous hotel (made famous by Buffalo Bill)/ The environment is clean, well-serviced, with good lighting and acoustics. The food at the buffet is very good. The bread pudding with whiskey sauce is more whiskey than sauce. Be prepared!

Needed an overnight near to Yellowstone for a 6AM start to get through Yellowstone before the tailbacks started. We had stayed in Cody in November 2002 and had dinner at the Irma which was good then. No comparison with the crowds of mid August - the dining room smelt nauseatingly of old frying oil and was pretty full so we ate elsewhere.

On the plus side, the room was spacious and comfortable, with a large bathroom and good quality toiletries. The downside is that the partition walls are paper thin. We could hear the conversation in the next room on one side (and participated if we had wanted to). As for the nocturnal activities taking place in the room on the other side, it was time to get some earplugs out!

The free wifi is intermittent - when i queried this at the front desk on checking out there was no surprise - it seemed to be a normal event.

We made reservations in January 2009 for three rooms, the expensive ones($157), for Aug. 1, 2009. We arrived at 4pm that day and were told they had no rooms for us because some people had decided to stay an extra night and they had our rooms. After much heated argument, they decided they could "squeeze" in one room and they were decent enuf to comp rooms in another hotel for the other two couples in our party. Then when I had to go to the front desk to get help with the keys that wouldn't work, they were signing in a couple that had just walked in off the street. I was quickly whisked away upstairs before I could cause a scene over that one. Later that night we talked with 2 other couples who had ALSO had reservations and who were ALSO told their rooms were not available. They didn't argue so they didn't get their rooms comped elsewhere.

Stayed one night as we were passing thru on our way to Yellowstone. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The location was fantastic! You can park your car and walk if you care to shop or visit one of the many restaurants. The kids enjoyed the "gunfight" that takes place outside the hotel. Found the staff at the front desk to be rude but staff at the saloon was very friendly and helpful. Had breakfast in the dining room. Some of us had the buffet and others ordered off the menu. No complaints.

My husband and I stayed at the Irma and were very disappointed. We stayed in the annex and didn't even have a window! When we entered the room the strong smell of cleaning solution was overwhelming and there was no way to air it out...remember no window. We asked for another room and were told none were available. The room was clean but the rest of the hotel was dirty and worn. The noise from room above was very annoying...we could hear their every step. It sounded like they might come through the ceiling.
My advice...take a quick peek at the historic part of the Irma Hotel, maybe eat at the restaurant, and stay somewhere else!

We spent a night at the Irma and enjoyed our stay. Our room was large, clean and nice. The western atmosphere was a real plus.
