We took a quick drive to Cheyenne from Denver to see the Wyoming capitol building, and for the kids to add another state to the list of places they'd visited. We were in town about two hours but could have looked around for two days!
Our trip occurred on a Saturday in August. Arriving in the quaint downtown area we were struck by how clean and attractive it was. A lot of folks were streaming to the farmer's market. We joined them and had a blast sampling and buying wares at the many tents.
Later we stopped briefly by the capitol building for a few photos, then took the long way back to the highway to get a view of some of the heritage neighborhoods.
Folks were very hospitable and prices at the market were reasonable. The weather in mid-August was mild and pleasant...my guess is August is one of the best times of year to go.
Don't make the same mistake we made..allow some time to visit this jewel of a community. Next time we travel to the area, Cheyenne will get more attention. Until then, we'll fondly remember our two hours in this town on the high plains..
