Owner description: You don't want to miss the new three story conservatory! It opened in August 2017. The Grand Conservatory features a tropical conservatory, a Navy submarine periscope, and several areas of respite. The Cheyenne Botanic Gardens is Wyoming’s only botanic garden. It exists in one of the most challenging gardening climates in the lower 48 states (high winds, regular hail, high altitude, little winter snow cover and unpredictable first and last frosts). Come explore our brand new Grand Conservatory as well as 27 specialty landscapes, where senior, youth and handicapped volunteers provide a majority of the physical labor. This is also home to Engine 1242, the oldest locomotive engine in Wyoming.

To be fair, this is a lovely oasis in Wyoming. Nice walkways, nice little lake, it is a pleasant stroll on a pleasant day. Let's face it, Wyoming wind and weather is a tough challenge for a botanical garden, and even in May, the limited foliage makes it tough to shut out car traffic and city surroundings and create the hidden world you often find in botanical gardens. But you work with you've got and on a nice sunny day the families were enjoying it very much.

Not one of the largest Gardens I have visited, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in peace and tranquility.

We planned to go in May, but winter is still carrying on, and unfortunately the blooms and blossoms were not around, but we still appreciated the finer things natural.

Just take the time to sit and imagine - it worked well for us.

Love the gardens no matter what season! It's especially great for a city the size of Cheyenne! A wonderful place to walk, relax or for artists to plein air paint. Though I wouldn't recommend painting in the Wyoming wind in January... LOL

I visited in the winter but I have heard this place is even better in the summer. I am planning on checking it out again next time I am in town this summer.
