“Hotel or motel?”
Reviewed October 11, 2013

This hotel really doesn't seem to know quite what it is. The rooms are all a walk away from the main lobby area and are set in blocks mostly around the pool. The actual rooms are spacious if rather fussy in the décor. We had a ground floor room, so had to keep the curtains closed or others could see straight into our room. Be warned, the door locking/opening system is odd in the extreme and unlike any we had ever come across before. What did seem weird to us was the families in neighbouring rooms appeared to be having a party on the lawn outside their rooms, complete with camping tables and chairs etc. Thankfully, the noise didn't go on too late.
The restaurant was quite elegant but the food was average. A rather quirky touch was the stuffed emperor penguin in the lobby!

Room Tip: If you want privacy, ask for a room on the upper floor

We spent only one night on our way home, but was very pleased with the quality of this property. Looks like older inn from outside, but inside is different story, it is elegant at every turn, be sure to explore the conference center area. Our room was huge, well appointed, great amenities. We had breakfast in elegant dining room, very good and well priced. Well maintained landscaping, don't let the truck stop out front put you off, it's a beautiful place up the hill. If you visit Laramie while in area, sample the beers and food at Altitudes.

Room Tip: poolside was beautiful

We had been traveling for eleven hours by car. By chance, we found Little America Hotel and Resort in Cheyenne WY.

It exceeded our expectations. Our dinner in the dining room was delicious. Even though the restaurant was closing in 30 minutes, the staff was very courteous and helpful.

Our room was huge, well appointed, and provided everything we had hoped for. Comfortable bed and pillows, microwave, and refrigerator,. Each room has a balcony or patio. Each building had a washer and dryer and ice machine. In addition, there was a pool, lounge chairs, and a play area for children. We were very surprised to find that the room was reasonably priced. We will definitely stay at this resort I again when we are driving through Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Room Tip: The first floor rooms were private and easily accessible.

It was an interesting experience. The lobby, restaurant and bar all look very nice. While waiting in line to check in I listened as the women at the desk kept repeating to each person who was checking in how to open the door to your hotel room. Seems you would correct the problem rather than have them repeat this over and over. Doors are metal and make a very loud vibrating bang when you shut them, no matter how quietly you try to do so. Not good when people are trying to sleep. When we entered the room I thought I had stepped into a time warp. It was clean, but princess style furniture and a pink tile (from floor to ceiling) bathroom was not what I was expecting from the billboards that had been enticing us all the way across the state of Wyoming. I don't even think those photos were taken at the hotel.
We went to the bar for a pre-dinner drink and we found it jam packed with conventioners on one end, who had re-arranged the furniture and taken everything that wasn't nailed down. The other end was roped off for a "woman's group" that was meeting there. They had ONE bar tender and no waitresses. The room had to have 60+ people in it. A very large man, who appeared to be the manager, came through the room several times, went over to the woman's group and then left again. This bar tender was clearly under water but did any help come or did the manager lift a finger to assist? Uh, no. And that was what bothered us the most. They had a HUGE dining room that was virtually empty. We couldn't understand why they hadn't roped off a section of that and let the seemingly well-staffed dining room handle the conventioners or the women's group. We left the bar and had dinner in the brightly lit dining room. The meal was acceptable, something that would be suitable for convention attendees. After dinner we returned to the bar thinking we would have an after-dinner drink in the beautiful leather chairs which were now back in their rightful places. There were just 5 male patrons sitting at bar and no one else in the large room except the one bartender, which seemed appropriate for this crowd. We were not waited on, had to go to the bar to get the drinks and the bartender never came back. We went back up to the bar, paid and headed for our room. We turned on the flat screen TV (which seemed out of place in the room that was in all other respects teleported from 1968) and noticed that the screen was convex, making everything appear larger on either side. We decided we'd just go to sleep. The beds were nice and comfy. But at about 7:00 in the morning we were woken by a bugle playing Revelry. The conventioners, perhaps? Oh, and the constant loud banging and vibrating of the metal doors with the problem door locks. We were happy when we drove away and wished we'd spent our money elsewhere.

Room Tip: Ask for a room without a loud metal door.

Hello sshivas,

I'm sorry for all of the frustration you had at our hotel. This is certainly not the experience we plan to offer any of our guests. We appreciate you taking the time to let us know about your stay - especially the detail. You made a lot of good suggestions, and I have already met with the managers of the departments where you had poor experiences to discuss this and make changes.

I would love to show you that we can get it right. If you could bring yourself to give us another try when you're in our area again, please contact me personally.

Thank you again for your comments,

The hotel itself is really good. I mean that the rooms are very spacious full with all the stuff you may need at the hotel. The main building and especially the foyer look great: when you arrive and enter the foyer it looks like a luxury hotel somewhere in Vegas. Same about the shops and the restaurant: big and top level. What I really enjoyed was a small separate coffee shop where you can get real espresso - not the drink with a slight smell of coffee. The pool is also great: it is an outdoor one but the size lets you swim - not bath only. We were very unlucky that the day we have been staying at LA it was heavy raining with no chance to use a pool at all.
Not to forget about the rabbits: plenty of them all around and I should say it makes the general atmosphere much warmer:)
What I didn't like was the way the staff meats you when you arrive and the way they communicate you. I don't want to say it was something really bad but it was very non-personal. It creates a gap between the facilities and the service and you really feel it.

What a charming little place this is! Very nice rooms that were very clean. A little outdated but It was positively charming. Each unit has a balcony or patio that was wonderful to sit outside. Very large bathrooms. We had a bit of a hike to the main lobby and restaurant. If you are not a walker ask for a closer room. Their key/lock system is a bit unique. Had trouble opening the door, but figured it out easily enough. Nice family area with pool for kids.

We stayed here for one night before leaving for the airport for our flight home the following day. This is a very comfortable and stylish hotel and although near the interstate, it does not feel like it as it is set back and beautifully landscaped with lots of trees etc.

We loved the fact that after a long journey down from Devils Tower, we could settle in our room and not have to go out again and could eat here and then have a drink in the bar. It was a very relaxing evening before having a long flight home. The restaurant was very nice, as was the food.

We had a preferred King Room which was very clean, roomy and comfortable. The bed was so comfy and the linens high end. As others have said, the bathroom was a bit retro and perhaps needed a few upgrades but that in no way stopped us enjoying the room. Although we didn;t use the pool, it looked very inviting.

We would definitely stay here again if in Cheyenne.

Room Tip: There are several accommodation buildings within the grounds, so be specific when booking as some fa...
