“Very informative museum.”

This was a very good location, displays were excellent and staff were very good. Only minor disappointment was the actual fort was closed because it was winter.

“History of Casper & it's early Fort”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

Very good attached museum showing history of Casper. The Fort that was an Army post is very educational. additionally there are displays showing how early settlers crossed the North Platte River.

“Very worth while”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

We stopped here on a group tour as we crossed Wyoming and enjoyed this museum very much. In addition to an indoor museum, that includes various exhibits (Native Americans, Oregon Trail items, ranching, etc.) there are buildings outside that give visitors some idea of what conditions were like for soldiers as well as those passing through the area back in the days of the Oregon Trail. Fort Caspar itself existed for a relatively short period during the 1860’s but prior to the Fort’s construction a ferry (started by Brigham Young) had been operating since the late 1840’s and a trading post by the early 1850’s. Thus, the site was an important stop for travelers heading west. The buildings are not authentic but are good reproductions done during the 1930’s by workers employed by the WPA during the Great Depression and include a reconstruction of the Brigham Young ferry. The museum also has a good gift shop and friendly staff. I would allow at least an hour to visit the museum and buildings outside. Admission fees are very modest ($3.00 per adult, $2.00 for teens up to 18 and free for kids 12 and under.) Fort Caspar is well worth visiting for individuals and families.

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

The museum does a good job of telling both the story of Fort Casper and the story of the Casper area. Exhibits were interesting and visually appealing. The restored fort was about average of this type. Adding a replica of the bridge and Mormon ferry was a nice touch.
