“Very nice place, shame about the food!”

Had a drink in the bar (which is fabulous) and decided to book for dinner. Limited choice on menu, but thought we'd chosen wisely. Had scallops wrapped in bacon to start - they were beautifully cooked but the bacon was almost raw! I chose pasta for main which was actually tasty but very rich. We shared a dessert - only three choices offered. Not offered coffee at end on meal. Service was ok, but pretty slow given the number of other diners. The hotel looks beautiful and full of history and character, just eat somewhere else (unless you want steak, apparently!).

Had dinned at the Occidental Saloon. I love this place with all the old pictures and memorabilia. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food was very good. My steak was cooked perfectly to order. A great place to visit and eat when you're in Buffalo.

So much taxidermy, so little time ! A great historical bar with a good atmosphere, we thoroughly enjoyed our beer and snacks here, and the people watching was pretty cool too

Carolyn B's review on May 29, 2014, is inaccurate as the Saloon does not serve elk and I believe she must have been speaking about the Virginian Restaurant...the hotel, Saloon and restaurant are all interconnected.

The Saloon is super cool and appears fairly authentic based on pictures from the old days. Definitely worth a walk-through. The menu is average bar food with very limited options. On Sunday afternoon, our bartender was anything but friendly and the food took a while and was average.

We didn't eat here, but came for the Thursday night jam session which goes from 7 - 10 pm. We had stumbled onto this place once before, several years ago, on a Thursday night and thoroughly enjoyed the music and atmosphere. This year we planned our trip to be here on a Thursday night and again were not disappointed. Come early. The place fills up quickly.
