“Great Smaller Museum”
Reviewed October 12, 2013

Well displayed artifacts of both Indian and early western life. They had some very interesting ways in which they depicted time lines, eco-systems, and dioramas. They had a large map on which the various trails west lit up at the push of a button so it was easy to visualize the various wagon train and freight trails.

I had mentioned I was interested in books that had facts rather than myths or legends about the late 1800's in the west. When we returned to the gift shop, they had pulled about 20 books for me to pick from!!

We would definitely stop here again if we made it back to Buffalo.

“Nice displays and info on the colorful history of Johnson county”
Reviewed October 11, 2013 via mobile

Great museum with lots of displays and full of information on the many aspects of Johnson county history. Knowledgable and friendly staff. Nice gift shop. And there is a great statute of a local hero from the past on the grounds.

“Everything that a small museum should be”
Reviewed September 28, 2013

We visited the museum to study the restored sheep wagon and in the process had a wonderful morning taking in Mr. Gatchell's collection. There is much to see here to help in understanding the local and regional history. The Native American artifacts, the Johnson County cattlemen wars, the Basque influence and much more are all coverd with well designed and fascinating displays. Our special interest in the sheep wagon was met with charm and hepful assistance from Sylvia Bruner, the Assistant Director. A really worthwhile visit for anyone in Buffalo or passing.
