food was good at the café but Sandy the waitress was more interested in chatting with the bartender than taking care of us. Will try it again in a couple weeks, lets hope for the best. we live about 5 miles from the café. 1/26/2014 at 7:50 pm

I have stayed at the Mead several times a year for the past 10 years, most recently this month.
I had considered staying elsewhere due to what I perceived as a decline in the overall value in the past few years.

I am glad I chose to return. There has been a significant improvement in the overall quality of the product in 2013. The staff at the front desk, restaurant and tavern were to a person, superb.

As part of this stay we held an event with lunch for 75 people. The entire staff listened very carefully to our requests and delivered exactly as promised. The food was very good, hot and delivered on time.

The quality of the product and the overall service was the best I have experienced here. Every employee was willing to go above and beyond their job to assist. Moreover, they understood what needed to be done and were empowered to make that happen.

Congratulations to the ownership, management and staff for all you have accomplished.

Stayed here for almost 2 weeks and it was like home. We had a large room with a great view. We wouldn't stay in any other hotel in the area! Only thing that could be improved is an upgrade on the TV's.

I grew up in this area back when the paper industry here was booming. The Mead Inn was the place to go, but unfortunately, times have changed. My 83 year old mother and I shared a room at the Mead in October. We asked for a room in the newer part of the hotel but they said they were booked. The staff was friendly and gave us a large corner suite on the 3rd floor. It was late afternoon on a cold, dark, rainy day. We couldn't read the room numbers because they didn't have any lights on in the hallway. The room numbers are not in order so it was confusing. The room was spacious, clean, and quiet, with an old TV. We ate dinner at the excellent Italian restaurant in the hotel.
When we got back to our room the air conditioner was running. I switched it to heat but cold air blasted until I turned off the unit completely. We were cold all night. When I called, they said they would send up someone in the morning. When he arrived, he told us the heat wasn't on in our part of the hotel! October in Central Wisconsin and no heat? Why weren't we informed? He was nice and brought us a space heater. If a hotel is going to have rooms available for guests, I was under the impression that lighting and heat are included in the price. Would I stay here again? Not without checking out the basics.

Room Tip: Stay in the newer part of the hotel. Ask if the heat is turned on.

The entire Staff at the Hotel Mead is very experienced at handling weddings down to the smallest detail. They where very easy to work with followed thru on every request and detail we had to make this wedding for Carl & Sam everything they wanted. I would highly recommend this facility for your next major event. I would also recommend you taking the White Glove service as it adds that extra touch to your cocktail reception and dinner event. The entire staff we dealt with where great and the food was very good.

Looks like a cheap 1970's era hotel from the outside, but we were pleasantly arrived when we checked in. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Our room was on the top floor (5th) and when we walked in we felt like we were walking into a deep freeze. Brrr. We tried to turn off the air and then went out to dinner. When we got back it was still freezing (62 degrees) so we called maintenance. The maintenance man was wonderful - explained that the heating system is hot water and since we were on top floor, the hot water probably wouldn't make it up to our room, so he unplugged the unit so at least cold air wouldn't blow. It warmed up to 69 degrees by the next day. Room was very clean, bed extra comfy with lots of pillows and good towels.

Room Tip: If you want a warm room, stay on lower floor.

The Hotel Mead has been a mainstay in the Wisconsin Rapids area for decades and has always been THE place to stay. The hotel was recently updated and has all the touches that you could want. I stayed for a week and was greeted with a smile and hello as I came and went by the friendly staff. The room was spotless as was the lobby area and restaurant.

The bed was comfortable with crisp white linens and a couple of blankets. There is an ironing board and iron if someone needs to touch up their clothing. The shower/tub has a shampoo and conditioner dispenser mounted in the shower. In addition to the sink in the shower/commode area there is a vanity with sink and blow dryer outside the bathroom.

The restaurant is outstanding and beautifully decorated. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner if you wanted to you could simply eat at the hotel daily and find the prices quite reasonable. As with much of Wisconsin, you will find an all you can eat Friday night fresh fish fry for dinner.

Although I didn't use it, the inside pool appeared clean and inviting.

I have stayed at the Mead several times with family and will be there again when next I visit. If in Central Wisconsin for any reason, consider staying at the Hotel Mead. You won't regret it.
