First of all, I knocked this down one star because it can be hard to find parking near it. The Studio is on the main drag through town. The Studio is an island of quiet compared to the the nearby hurly-burly tourist attractions. There is no food available on site but there are plenty of restaurants nearby.

The Studio shows some of the history of photography, and the history of the Dells around the turn of the century (1900s). There is some touristy stuff in the front but once past that, the rest is excellent and educational. See the original studio, check out the stereo pictures and see a unique slice of life. You can easily spend an hour (more if you want to do it justice) exploring the place. Some of the exhibits are hands-on.

Check out their web site (http://hhbennettstudio.wisconsinhistory.org/) for more information, hours, etc.

This place makes you appreciate the Dells alot more. There are alot of interesting exhibits with alot of pictures and displays to look at. There is alot of reading, so don't expect everything to be presented on TV screens (they do have these though). I'd definetly recommend this attraction to anyone interested in history and looking to get away from the tourists for an hour.

Just walking down Broadway, I happened on this great little museum!
It is the "HH Bennett Studio" although it could be a museum. And it's
definitely a history center. I was impressed at the displays and all the
exhibits of the photography of HH Bennett. I knew nothing of the
man beforehand and I certainly learned a lot, especially of HH Bennett's
contributions to photography. His pictures bring the whole Dells area alive.
It was great to get a historic sense of the Dells. It made the boat ride on the
Dells that much more meaningful with so much history behind it.
The picture are awesome too. I bought a copy (framed) which now hangs in
my living room. Always enjoy looking at it.
The Dells isn't just water parks and ice cream. Though that's good too!
Much to enjoy.

Just a bunch of pictures on the walls, nothing special. The guy working there, Alex, was the best part, extremely nice and worth the $7 to talk to!! He was better than the museum!

I have been looking at their postcards for many years, but there was lots of great stuff here beyond what I had run into previously. It is great fun to see how one man could make a resort come to life in the mid-1800s. The interactive stereoscope exhibit is amazing. You get a real feel for the draw of these photos 150 years ago.

The video on loggers before there was a dam built in the Dells is fascinating, and we also enjoyed trying to leap the same distance to an exposed bluff that Mr. Bennett's son did in one of their most famous photos.

Not by any means the typical Dells venue, but interesting for those of you who like history, photography, and especially media hype!
