Christmas Mountain Village
Ranked #34 of 75 Hotels in Wisconsin Dells
Reviewed January 30, 2012

We stayed at Christmas Mountain in January of 2011 and attended a time share session to get free lift tickets. We decided to buy into the Bluegreen Sampler Package and used some of our points for our stay January 2012. We stayed in a 3 Bedroom Townhome for 5 nights. The townhome was very nice. Bluegreen is in the process of updating all of the units, but not at a very rapid pace. Only one of each unit type has been updated and those are used for tours for the timeshare. Our unit was cozy and roomy. The 3 bedroom is made up of the 1 bedroom side and the 2 bedroom side so there were 2 kitchens, 2 washer/dryers, 2 fireplaces, 2 entrances, 3 patios, 2 living rooms, 3 bathrooms - lots and lots of space.

We had family come up and join us. We were in unit 867 which is located up on top of a very steep hill. I was lucky our unit didn't have many stairs to climb as I have a bad knee and stairs are difficult for me. Some of the units had 25+ steps to climb up to get to the unit - luggage can be a workout! The view was beautiul! We had several days of snow, and getting up and down the hill by car was challenging. We were confined to our unit for almost an entire day due to the inability of cars to pass safely up and down. We watched many people park at the bottom of the hill and walk up to their unit. We enjoyed the day playing board games it was a blessing in disguise. With a unit that sleeps 10 and only parks 2 cars, parking was an issue. If we had more than 2 cars we had to overflow park at the main building which was not close. Also, daily garbage pickup would be nice. Garbage needed to be taken to the dumpster which also was not close.

There is a restaurant (Mulligans) and a snack shop on site, and several great restaruants in town as well. We went to Wal-Mart (5 minute drive) and stocked up on all the food we needed and made most of our meals in our unit. The unit has everything needed to make just about any meal!

Christmas Mountain VIllage is a beautiful property and we love staying there all seasons. I agree with other postings that the property is in need of updates, but as I overheard someone say, think of the outdatedness as rustic. There are just a few things that were bothersome. Lift tickets were pricy especially for staying 6 days. We received a discount on lift tickets because we were owners, but it still added up. Mt. Olympus Resort also in the Dells offers free lift tickets at Christmas Mountain to their guests along with the use of their indoor water and theme parks, but Christmas Mountain offers no recipricating offer. I found it offensive that guests of another resort were able to use the amminties at my resort for free while I had to pay. One night we booked a room at Mt. Olympus just for the lift tickets and use of the Mt.Olympus parks. Christmas Mountain does have a wonderful outdoor hot tub which is always fun in winter!

Ski and Snowboard Rentals were also very pricy. We came home and found skiis on ebay and purchased for next time, much cheaper. We had one pair of skiis we brought with us, but they would not rent only boots to us. Tubing was incredibly over priced. 16 dollars for 2 hours - and the lines were so long I think we got to go down 5 times in that time period. The hill was very busy on Saturday, but the only had one lift running. Not sure why, and the line for the single lift was also very very long.

Don't get me wrong, we had a wonderful trip, and will definately return. Hope the updates happen sooner than later.

Room Tip: Townhomes up on the hills have great views, but some have a lot of stairs to climb. Ask for a room...

We have visited the resort once a year for close to 20 years but as a family, this was our first winter visit. The biggest plus to staying at the resort is not getting caught up in all the commercialism of the Dells. You can go in and visit the sites for a couple hours but return to the tranquil resort where there is tremendous golfing in the summer. What we noticed on this visit was this - the accommodations are barely being kept up. I think this time we counted about 5 items worth noting to management...broken washing machine, broken out pain of glass on fireplace, a bathroom fan that could challenge the horn of a freight train, etc. Beyond our room, we found some big shortcuts too. On the resorts bunny hill was a contraption of some sort that was intended to be a tow rope. No child could use it to get up the hill (too difficult to hang onto) and we saw one adult get taken down by it. The gentleman, in his 20s and fit, thought he may have broke some ribs. Our two children learning to snowboard chose to have us carry them up the hill or walk up the hill themselves in place of using. As for the chalet, some major upgrades are needed to the press wood tables that saw their better day(s) several years ago. My husband and I commented upon leaving that we felt that the conditions at the resort also seemed to be drawing a different crowd. We aren't into social standings etc but when a majority of the skiiers etc were wearing street clothes to ski and tube, you felt like you might be a bad neighborhood. I think Christmas Mountain needs to work on their image a bit more and do some upgrades to a few of the areas that are way beyond general wear and tear.

Room Tip: The Timbers are the nicest for winter and summer. During the summer though, it is handy to choose a...

My wife and I and our two young daughters returned again to Christmas Mountain Village using points from our Bluegreen Timeshare. This time we had a two bed, two bath Timber unit.

The unit itself is a pretty good downgrade from the "Deluxe Timber" that we had been used to, but it also was a lot lower amount of points to rent it. The unit was typically clean and well kept as we have grown used to with Bluegreen Properties.

The resort itself is largely unchanged and that is a good thing. The ski/snow tubing hill is well maintained, and the ski rental is pretty good also. The bar that overlooks the ski hill; "Mulligans" has a nice selection of local beers and a decent bar menu. Kids are welcome especially during the daytime hours.

The pool area is nice, especially for little kids, older kids might be bored. One good thing is that they lowered the age of the hottub from 16 to 6. So now the younger kids can use it. Also they have gotten rid of the towel cards that were previously in place, which is nice.

We will be back next year!

Nice layout for the 3 bedroom townhomes and the nicer 2 and 3 bedroom side by side. Althoght one year our unit have a very bad mildew smell, and they tried to remedy it but would not give us another unit. They said it was because there was no concrete for a basement floor.

Pros- Comfy beds. Mostly clean although many dead bugs in the master bath. Nice hot tub facilities. Close to town but private. We managed to fit 12 ppl into a 3 bdrm, 3 bath. Maintenance was very efficient and very friendly.

Cons - Very small kitchen. My 16 yr old son tried skiing for the first time and after 15 minutes realized it was impossible with his size 14 flat feet. He never even went up the hill. They refused to give any kind of refund or even allow him to switch to tubing. The internet is VERY slow. Do not pay the daily fee.

Overall, really nice experience. Husband has a Bluegreen timeshare and we desperately needed a get-away that wasn't too far away or too expensive. Got a really cozy 1 bedroom townhouse that had a nice little kitchen fully stocked with plates and cooking utensils. Even has a fireplace... it was just what we needed.
The townhouse is actually more of a duplex that can actually be "opened up" into a single 3 bedroom "house". We're considering getting a full unit next year and inviting friends.

Biggest complaint - very thin walls.
The thinness of the walls became a bit of an annoyance when the people who stayed next to us showed up with children who had no concept of indoor voices or walking softly.

I liked that the resort is a bit off the beaten path and not super close to the heart of the Dells. It made for a nice quiet trip (other than kids next door). The resort staff was fantastic, the bar staff was super nice, and the actual townhouse itself was pretty well appointed.

Room Tip: Thin walls in the townhouses. If you have children and are not renting the entire 3 bedroom unit...

We have stayed here during the summer and now Christmas break. We love it on both occasions. Winter break may be my favorite time but the water parks in the area are fun for summer. We got a 2 bedroom Villa both times & it is very roomy but a little outdated. 2 fireplaces are great & a full kitchen are a plus. Tubing & skiing were great & great prices. Indoor pool & hot tub nice too. Food options are OK, Mulligans has good food but never seems to have enough staff. Jollys is not good, fried food but taste old. I would recommmend Firehouse Pizza which is right next door to the property, great food & service. Overall, we love Christmas Mountain & hope to return soon!
