“Kalahari stay”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

We had a living social coupon and stayed one night in a 2 room suite. It was so roomy and wonderful. Kalahari also offers good deals on line. We visit every few months; it is a great way to have a mini vacation.

We were here to celebrate a 60th birthday with our family. The ages ranged from 1 to 60. Everyone had a wonderful time in the waterpark and indoor theme park. We had the two bedroom suites for each family and it is very spacious for everyone. The rooms were clean when we arrived. One room was not ready until about 5:00 pm but at least we had one room for everyone to put there things. The staff when we checked in was not overly friendly but ok. The bellboys were fantastic and right there to help. The first day we received maid service but the second day we did not. I feel for the price you should get maid service every day. We had to call down for towels and coffee later in the evening. We asked for an additional blanket which we did not receive but in the end it was ok anyway. The towels did arrive promptly. We rented a private cabana with a whirlpool for the three days we were there. It was really nice to have with some young children. The kids could take a nap and no one had to go sit in their room. I wish they would consider a discount if you reserve for three days as it is very expensive but it was nice to have. I am not sure I would rent one again but that is just a personal preference. The cost is more than a room! We never left the resort which was very nice with a large family and small children. We ate breakfast at the Ivory Coast and the food and the service were wonderful. We ate dinner at Damons two nights and that was very good and the service was also great. They are expensive as well as drinks but then you don't have to leave the resort so I guess you pay for convenience. I do have to say however that I was very disappointed in the evening buffet. We paid $18.00 per person for a family of 12 and we got mini corn dogs, chicken tenders, cold pizza, some tiny pieces of fish and some sort of meats for tacos which they considered meat. On the ads they all say carving stations and tepanayki dining. We had none of these things and I think the cost was outrageous for that kind of food. We should have eaten at the snack bar next door for a lot less. That was very disappointing. I felt someone should have told us that the meat things they advertise were not available. When I talked with the manager he basically told me that while I wasn't happy if I wanted to come back that night they had the carving stations but it was $23.00 per person. So my dining experience with the buffet was not a pleasant one. We felt like we were eating off a kids menu somewhere only it was seriously overpriced. Very disappointing. Drinks were expensive for what you got at any area of the resort. The hot tub in the adult bar and the other outdoor hot tub were lukewarm at best.

I do have to say that for the amount of people that they have in and out of the resort they do a great job in service for most areas. Most everyone we encountered in our 4 day stay were friendly. We certainly had a good time and will likely return. The kids are all tired but happy and the adults are happy to return home to the quiet.

Room Tip: If you like your space upgrade to a two bedroom suite with a family. We overlooked the outdoor pool...

We're so thankful to hear that everyone (from ages 1-60) had a blast! That's awesome and we love to hear it. Thank you so much for sharing. I appreciate all the feedback both good and bad. I will be sure to share with the appropriate departments. I wanted to call out specifically I will connect with our Food & Beverage Director on the Great Karoo experience you encountered likewise, your room not being serviced everyday. You are correct, the expectation is that each room is serviced for stay overs. Our housekeeping manager will look into that for you. We appreciate you letting us know! Again, it was so very much our pleasure to have everyone! We can't wait to see the family again soon! Please pass along a special 'Happy Birthday' for me! Take care.

We visited the Kalahari last month with a large group of women. An incident happened one night where a man broke in our room at 2 am and stole a phone (video surveillance showed this). Due to the fact that our door was left ajar, the hotel felt as though it was out fault that a man came in to our room and in return has taken zero responsibility for this incident--- even though their main entrance lock was not working which allowed anyone from the street to enter the hotel. They refused to let us watch the video surveillance and suspiciously are unable to answer where he went after our room for the 2 hours before he supposedly left the resort. This is an unacceptable response. The Kalahari has made no effort to even apologize or contact us since the event even though the person affected has called the manager EVERY day since to follow up. Unacceptable and would NEVER recommend this place to anyone who wants to be respected.

We stayed Thursday and Friday nights in a 2 bedroom queen suite. The living social deal included the waterpark, indoor theme park, and zoo. The room was clean and nicely set up with leather furnishings in the living area. The kids, ranging in age from 7-15, enjoyed all the slides, indoor-outdoor hot tub, and wave pool. There was also significant space and activities in the water park for toddlers and preschoolers. The indoor theme park offers many activities (go carts, rope course, laser tag, etc) although at a smaller scale than larger amusement parks. We enjoyed a delicious dinner at Damon's and did not find the prices any higher than at a stand alone restaurant in our area. Our second night, we ordered pizza from an outside pizza place and watched an in-room movie. We brought our own breakfasts and lunches, using the small room fridge and microwave. All the staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful. The water park was much busier on Saturday morning and lines were longer, as to be expected, but ample chair and table space remained available. We like to avoid crowds and would return again for a midweek visit, especially with the increased value of a living social/groupon deal. The bottom line: My boys can't wait for a return trip.

We've stayed at the Kalahari 6 times over the past 10 years. We tried another major Dells resort last year and after that experience returned to Kalahari this year. This resort is immaculately maintained, the theme is well executed. the hallways are wide and spacious and the indoor waterpark is all under one roof. Our kids (4) range from 6-18 and everybody loves this resort, something for everyone, even the adults. Highly recommend Royal African Queen Suite - spacious, quiet, right in the middle of waterpark and indoor theme park. I agree that food can be expensive; but, with a little planning. . fridge/microwave/coffee in room, use coupons (Damons) provided on arrival, take advantage of the pizza add-on to your package. Be prepared for a bit of a wait at check-in, but after that it's all fun.

Room Tip: This resort is huge - everything is going to be a walk. We had a royal african queen suite this sta...

We're so excited to have you back! Thank you so much for returning visit us and then taking the time to review us. Always a pleasure to have you. You're right, with everything under one roof, it can be quite a haul at times, but hopefully that doesn't impact your visit too negatively. We can't wait to see the whole family again soon. Thank you so much! Take care. Till next time...

We stayed there 10-17-13 to 10-19-13. Check in was good. Room was very nice, fairly spacious and clean. We were in the Sands unit so we had to use the sky walk to the water park, restaurants and theme park, which is all enclosed. So you could wear your swim suite and cover up to go to the water park because you don't go outside. The water park was included but the amusement park was an additional $25.00 per person. The indoor water park was awesome. Very many slides, hot tubs, a lazy river and wave pool, several areas for little kids, and an area for adults. The lazy river passes thru the wave pool, cool! We stayed on the lazy river for about 4 trips around. I was actually starting to feel chilled so we went to the swim up bar for adults and the water was fantastic, like a hot tub. Had a couple of drinks, went outside too, never leaving the warm water. Food was good, we ate a Daemon's and the Ivory Coast. Food & service was very good. Some items seem a little pricey. Got coffee, a danish and sandwich to go from Java Manjararo for the trip home. The danish was to die for! All was good no regrets and will definitely go back. Bring your walking shoes because things are spread out. Service was all good.

Room Tip: might get a better rate thru Group On

So glad to hear that you had a blast! Thank you so much for sharing! As other reviewers mentioned, with everything under one roof, it can get to be a haul. Hopefully being indoors it didn't impact your stay at all. Sounds like the family all very much enjoyed their stay. We love hearing it! We are looking forward to seeing you again soon! Thank you so much for your time and see you soon.
