“Good amenities - Great staff”
Reviewed April 3, 2014

We have stayed at The Wilderness several times now and feel that I can say without a doubt they have an awesome staff. Housekeeping is quick and professional, staff at the activities are friendly and helpful, and their lifeguards are AWESOME. We've stayed in the hotels now each time and suggest first or third floor as the second floor is the main conduit between the waterparks. We upgrade to the larger room as the layout is more conducive to putting our children to bed (3&7 and they love it too).

We stayed their this past weekend & yes it was crowded. It's spring break on a weekend and we knew that going in. But the room was spectacular. There was 5 of us, my wife, & 3 kids 13-11-10. The rides were great, the wavepool with the large waves was excellent. The service at the front desk at our condo was amazing. In particular I want to give attention to Patricia & Stewart at front desk & Chuck in maintenance. They were friendly, helpful with suggestions on local places to eat, and directions. We needed a remote for 1 TV & it was there in 1 minute. Chuck made sure everything else was perfect before he left. I didn't eat or drink here much, we had 2 Bloody Mary's & ordered a pizza from Scarpono's the Italian restaurant on site delivered to our room one night. Everything was excellent. The drinks a little pricey @ $8 but it's a waterpark & I expected it. The pizza was very good & reasonable $15 for 14 inch. Indoor/ outdoor hot tubs great, 4 man Jacuzzi in the room with fireplaces and 4 TV awesome. Will definitely be returning here. We always stayed at Kalahari before but this is our new spot up here.

We arrived on Wed. It stayed busy, but we were able to park rather easily thru. Fri. If you want a water park chair or table, arrive first. They needed more rafts for Dueling Mammoths; it was a long wait. Also, the lazy river was hard to find a raft. The body tubes were fun! The Great Wave pool was fun, too. The Wild Canyon breakfast buffet was delicious! Sat. got very busy. For school holidays, I recommend arriving on a weekday.

Second time we have come here, which (unfortunately) has to be Spring break season due to my step daughter's birthday. Luckily they don't sell day passes; I could not imagine how crazy it would be! On Saturday we stood in line for the Hurricane for an hour! It is totally understandable given the time of year, and the lifeguarding staff was great and seemed to have a lot of patience. Everything was quite clean, and we only saw 2 racing slides not working. We have learned to not only bring our own food but to keep it in an iced cooler until the room is ready! We arrived at 11 to start using the waterpark facilities ASAP, and our villa really wasn't ready until 4. This was a nice upgrade for us over staying in the actual hotel as we did last time. It sleeps a max of 9 but is extremely spacious (you could pack in a lot more people if you brought sleeping bags, etc, but the roominess is very nice and makes it more of a vacation and getaway for everyone). There is a large bedroom with gas fireplace on a timer and king bed and balcony. There is another bedroom with balcony and two queen beds. These rooms both have tvs and are on the second floor. There is a collapsible bed we set up in the living room area downstairs for our teenager and her friend; they said this was comfortable. The kitchen comes with all things needed for cooking and dining. It is missing a few random things: paper towels, napkins, salt/pepper, and a spatula. We will keep in mind for next time! Everything was super clean. There are two full bathrooms which helped with having 8 people in the villa. Two parking spaces were not provided as promised but what are you going to do? The only thing I found odd was their waterpark towel policy. The paperwork all states that towels must be left in the room or cards returned upon checkout at 11 am. But when I went to return the cards I was told that "you're all good. These can't be tracked anyway" when I told him our villa #. As long as I don't see a charge show up on my card, I guess that's fine! Be sure to go on the Hurricane and the Black Hole. Very touristy (read: expensive!), so awesome to plan some easy meals and have all our food/drinks in the fridge/freezer for whenever we wanted. Do this!! Will be back if she wants to celebrate her birthday here again!

Room Tip: The hotel was nice, but if you have friends/family to go in on a villa with you, it's actually a...
