Chula Vista opened its condo section to many angry customers. The rooms were not furnished! While waiting over 1.5 hours between 3 lines to get to a room (the first was already taken), I saw employees moving furniture and pictures. We had to walk across three wooden planks and around hammers, drills, nails and furniture to get to our condo.

Our condo had no iron or board, no blow dryer, no tissue, the lights didn't work, no hot water, terribly firm beds. The drapes didn't shut all the way so people in the parking lot could watch us in the jacuzzi.

Alot of the resort is under construction so we had a nice view of dirt, construction vehicles and workers. Never mind how impossible parking is due to all of this construction. This resort is also in the boonies so you get no cell phone service. The resort has no WIFI or internet service (even the cheap motels have WIFI in the dells).

We had an absolutely horrible time and never returning to Chula Vista.

Would not recommend. Better places for the money. Hotel is under construction so there is mud \ noise everywhere. Hotel has a “mold” smell to it from the lobby, to the hallways to the rooms. Hotel map has pictures of water features (pools) that don’t exist. New indoor waterpark not open. Current Indoor\outdoor waterpark are weak. Outside water park had many slides not running and no water in kid area! Since their pool \ waterpark sucked, we spent the money and went to Mt. Olympus for the day and had a blast. Also, stayed at Great Wolf and it was well worth the money!!

It is a nice place to get-away for a few days on the "all-inclusive" plan. It was Memorial Day weekend an quite a bit of the staff was new and not sure of how the "all-inclusive" worked. As long as you have patience and ask questions things work pretty smoothly. You don't get pampered as much as some "all-inclusive" resorts. But look at it this way, it's a short ride and the staff speaks english, unlike the ones in Mexico, etc..

The waterparks are great for the younger children, but probably not large enough for the teenagers. Our 4 year old had a blast and our teenager was ok and loved being able to order any food she wanted and get "non-alcohol" Pina Coladas all day. It looks like the new indoor water-park is going to be large.

We had a double-queen suite. It was clean and comfortable. The bathroom smelled a bit musty and the fan was loud. But, how much time are you actually in the room? The fold out couch was nice for the extra space and bit of privacy with the 1/2 wall.

It was a good value for the money.

Chula Vista is a faded resort that is under intensive construction to bring it back. Here are the pros and cons of where it is at now with consideration for the future. I want to give it a 4 - but it is not quite there yet. I attached pictures of our room - the golf villa - which is new.

Current Pros:
Staff was very friendly and helpful. The manager made a point of walking me out of the lobby and into the parking lot to point to where my unit was (across the parking lot).
Our room was very nice and comfortable and had the right amount of space for 2 - 4. Inculded 3 different types of pillows - soft, firm, and feather.
There is a nice balcony area attached to the room - We were in the Golf Villa.
Having a kitchenette in the room is a nice bonus - plus the marble peninsula.
The resort itself is in a pretty area by the woods and a spot out by the river.
The Spa was incredible. Nice staff, excellent massage, and they painted my daughters nails as a bonus when she missed their "pretty in paint".
Some extra activities.
Current outdoor waterpark has a few rides for adults/teens and a mini golf which is included with stay, indoor waterpark has a nice whirlpool but is more for smaller children.
Everything they said would be included BEFORE we got there was.
We paid a very nice price for the room we got and were more than satisfied.
Lunch at the Mesa Grill was delicious.

Future Pros:
The upcoming waterpark is almost finished and we had a visual preview - it rivals Kahlari if you have ever seen that. It will more than double their current waterparks.
Boat rides to town.
More activities and restaurants upcoming.

Cons:
Room service made a couple mistakes at breakfast and the food was not very good.
Parts of the resort still look tired and worn.
The current outdoor waterpark had one of the 4 "adult" rides shut down, mini golf needed some upkeep, and body slide was very slow - good thing they're buidling a new one.
The buffet - food ranged from okay to good - but at $20, expected better including drinks and desert (you pay extra for this).
Unless you are going to drink a LOT - don't do All-Inclusive. Heard a lot of grumbling.
Restaurant closes at 10:00 - Not cool if you roll in late and just want a snack.
We were up there for memorial day and several things were not running yet like the boat shuttle, other restaurants, etc. They said not in season - when is their season then?
We wanted to enjoy our balcony at night but couldnt - the loudest frogs ever!! Seriously.

So I would give the room a 4, and the resort a 3 for the price we paid. I hope this review is helpful I tried to be as honest as possible. How friendly all of the front staff, servers, the woman who fixed the room service mistake in 5 minutes, etc. made up for a lack of current amenities.

Absolutely the worst "Big resort" in the Dells. The family that owns the Chula Vista also run the Americ-INN and Polynesian as well as Black Barts Stagecoach Buffet. And believe me you can definately tell.

First off is the problem with the employees. The majority of the staff at the Chula Vista is brought in from foreign lands, and while they do spea some english they are no help when you need information. The staff is also very mistreated. Up until last year all of the foreign staff was housed in disgusting living conditions, and forced to live in tiny apartments with 4-6 other people. While they are working at Chula, they are ot allowed to get jobs elsewhere, even if they are not making enough money at their present position (which happens quite frequently due to Chula's "secondary job" policy. Which basicly states that you get hired and work that job at a decent rate per hour, but if you get scheduled to work a "secondary job" then you only get paid minimum wage.).

I guess Chula VIsta is supposed to mean magnificent view, but all I saw was the top of the buildings and some trees. Evervthing, and I mean everything was "grimy". They are adding additional facilities to the resort, but I really don't think it will make any difference. They could have the best facilities in the dells, but everything else is run as cheap as possible due to the ammount of debt they are in. If you're looking to get substandard service, nasty food, and deal with disgruntled service this is the place to go. If you ask me I suggest either the Kalahari or Greatwolf. Or stay at a smaller hotel and just go to the "good" waterparks.

I also witnessed a piece of ply-wood get blown off of the snack bar and hit a lady on the head. It was a big piece too. The lifegaurd got her some ice, but management wouldn't even talk to her. They just gave her a card for insurance purposes and were quite rude.

As for the all inclusive package, free drinks are cool, free food is cool too. So I guess you can get really wasted on the free drinks, which will make you not care that the food is cold...old...nasty... and if you're really wasted you wont care that the staff looks like they want to do bad things to you, and if your really, really wasted you wont notice all the... ah nevermind you get the idea. Chula Vista = bad vacation
