“Delicious Sandwiches, Amazing Soup, and Inviting Atmosphere”
Reviewed December 28, 2013

The Idle Hour is something that could easily be glanced over if you don't know it's there, but is definitely worth a visit. It is housed inside a renovated late 19th century building, with pictures and other documented history displayed throughout the restaurant.

The food is simple, a handful of hot sandwiches and salads and such, but by keeping it limited, what they have is delicious. The Idle Hour Reuben is the best reuben sandwich I have had anywhere, and the (seasonal) butternut squash soup is not to be missed. They have an excellent selection of delicious teas, and serve a great cup of coffee.

Overall the Idle Hour is a simple place, with great food, and a good place to spend a few hours in front of a fire with a nice cup of tea or coffee and a few good friends.

“Missed Opportunity”
Reviewed November 10, 2013

Idle Hours has a charming historic vibe and is nicely renovated, but the place lacks personality. The staff needs to step up their game, engage more with customers and provide a more interactive dining experience. Sandwiches are basic. Better display of pastries would increase sales of pastries. Great potential here, but the energy and food fall flat. Prices are reasonable.

“Ok for a sandwich over lunch”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

The Idle Hour is basically a sandwich, soup and salad restaurant located in a historic building in downtown West Bend. They’re open daily for lunch and early dinner of…well…hot and cold sandwiches! They do open early weekdays but they only serve coffee and tea. I made the mistake of popping in early one morning for breakfast and the owner looked at me like I had a third arm growing out of my head. Anyway, the sandwiches are good and service is pretty quick and efficient so if you’re just looking for a reasonably quick sandwich over lunch or on your way home from work The Idle Hour is worth a stop. Once again be sure and bring cash; credit cards are not accepted.

What is it about West Bend and credit cards?
