“Beautiful Downtown Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 27, 2012

The lobby of the Jefferson Street Inn is smallish, but very impressive. The hotel is clean and our room was spacious enough. The location is great for walking to the mall or other shops and restaurants nearby. Our only issue was in trying to adjust the heat. We stayed two days and it took until the second night to get the AC/heat at about the right temperature. The thermostat is not very accurate and the fans along the wall blow constantly. We couldn't find a way to shut them off. We had a banquet served to our group there which was quite delicious. The complimentary breakfast was on the skimpy side, so our tour leader organized a hot meal breakfast for us in a separate room on the second morning. Overall, this hotel is very clean, with comfortable beds and roomy bathrooms, in a great location.

Stayed for one night because of a family funeral.
We upgrated from a regular king room to a suite and really felt it was worth the extra money.
The beds and pillows were very comfortable, enjoyed the whirlpool bath after a long day on the road. What really impressed me was that they had bath salts and a loofah for your bath. Loved that!
I also loved the robes. They were lighter weight and very comfortable to wear unlike the heavy terry robes most hotels provide. The room was very clean and presented well.
The only area that was a disappointment was the breakfast that came with the the room. For the level of this hotel I just felt they could be doing a better job.
There were no hot items offered and the one the one girl that was handling the breakfast time never wiped down the tables. It was difficut to find a clean table.
Overall the hotel and it's location to downtown and shopping is great. Would go back but have breakfast somewhere else.

I've held off on my review because quite frankly, I was angry and I wanted some time to pass since our stay in February so I could be more objective. This was our second trip to Wausau, but our first stay at the Jefferson Street Inn. My wife and I were on a 2 city trip and had been on the road for about 4 hours when we arrived at Wausau. We are looking at relocating to Wisconsin and thought a nice hotel in the heart of downtown would help us get the "vibe" of the city.

An older woman started to check us in, then the phone rang. I too work in a businesss where phones HAVE to be addressed, but we were completely abandoned half way through the the check in process. We listened as the lady joked with the person on the other end about some phone problems they were having. A younger gentleman started to help us until the lady got off the phone, literally 5 minutes later, then she chastized him. Never criticize an employees ability in front of the customer, that shows a complete lack of class, wait until the transaction is done. The young man was polite and could tell that we were amazed at how fast we were dropped. We personally couldn't tell what it was that she thought he was doing wrong.

Our room was nice, though the bathroom was pretty small. There was a girl's basketball tournament going on and there were girls running up and down the hallway making a fair amount of noise. That didn't really bother us as our room was fairly quiet, but it did surprise us. The parking ramp is connected by skyway and was convenient. On the 3rd night of our 3 night stay we had a difficult time finding a parking spot as some kind of function was being held.

The restaurant and bar were typical of a hotel. The food was "ok", but our server was fantastic. The second night we went down to the bar to unwind and there was a nice local accoustic duo performing. There's not much else in downtown Wausau as far as a downtown nightlife. One major plus is the mall is practically next door.

Make sure to bring some good sneakers because you might be doing some serious walking. The hotel is somewhat of a mixed use building as there is also an engineering firm located on the 2nd floor as well as some condos on the higher floors. There isn't much of a lobby for unwinding.

I may or may not stay there again. My wife had wanted something upscale and we had hoped this would be it, but our experience at check in was the worst this frequent traveler has ever experienced. I don't need my butt kissed, but a mutual exchange of respect seems to be a reasonable request.

Room Tip: There are several different layouts to the rooms and while the standard room is decent, consider an...

Stayed for one night during a conference, and had an amazing stay as always. The rooms are large, the hotel is beautiful, and the staff is wonderful. I have to say, this is my favorite place to stay. They go out of their way to make you feel like right at home. EXTRORDINARY! Thank you Jefferson Street Inn.

I highly recommend staying at Jefferson Street Inn. It's a great place to stay if you're in the Wausau area. It's located in the recently revamped downtown and there are many restaurants and bars within walking distance to choose from.
Parking is in a ramp that's connected by skyway to the hotel, and there is an abundance of spots to choose from. The elevators are really slow in the ramp, so be prepared for a bit of a wait. You also need a parking pass, so I'd check in at the front desk before you park (we didn't, so we had to walk back to the ramp after dropping off our bags).
After we checked in, and went to take our stuff upstairs, the elevator broke down, which was thoroughly frustrating after a long day. The staff was helpful, although it took a while to get the problem fixed.
We got up to the room, and I was blown away. Everything was super nice, and clearly new. The bathroom was very large (we had 4 girls altogether, getting ready to go out on the town, and at no point did it feel cramped). The shower was just a shower (no tub) which is totally fine by me, but none of us used it. I'm usually really creeped out by hotels. Just the thought of all the people who've been in there before me. At no point did that cross my mind. I usually wipe down all bathroom surfaces and always wear shoes; I didn't feel the need to do that here. The beds were large and the pillows were super comfy. Everyone said they had the best sleep they could remember having in a while.
The hotel's a little bit confusing to navigate. They don't have the ramp well-labeled, so it's a bit confusing trying to find your way to the skyway. That goes in the other direction, too. Nothing's labeled very well. I'd appreciate some more arrows, or even a sign in the elevator telling you where things are.
We went down for breakfast and realized we only got two breakfast tickets. We asked at the front desk and they said they only give two per room. Not sure why they would do this. We went to breakfast expecting something fantastic, given that they were hoarding meal tickets, and found pretty much your standard, cold hotel breakfast. Bagels, hard-boiled eggs, tiny containers of cereal, oatmeal, granola bars, coffee, juice. Nothing spectacular. Which is not to say we weren't full and satisfied by the time we left.
We didn't eat at the restaurant, but we did get a couple drinks, and that was a great experience. Their drink list is extensive, and very reasonably priced. The bartenders are friendly and helpful. They were there when we needed them, but didn't bug us otherwise. There was live music when we arrived (a pianist), but he unfortunately left very soon after.
All-in-all, I'd recommend the Jefferson Street Inn to anyone. It's well-located, super clean, the staff is friendly, and the beds are comfy. I would've given them 5 stars were it not for the elevator incident and the lack of breakfast tickets.

Stayed for one night on business whilst en route. The staff were exceptionally friendly on check in and again on check out.
The hotel is located downtown and has adequate parking outside. The hotel was very clean and tidy as wwere the rooms which were well appointed with everything you need.
This hotel was a nice change from the usual chain hotels.Th eGrill room restaurant and bar was great and the food very good, I would recommend the Chips as an appetizer they were great.
The bar staff were very friendly without being false.
My only criticism was that breakfast was very simple, not much choice.

When we checked in, the guy was rolling his eyes Shaking his head and showing a very bad additude. When we got in the rooms they were fair, but the showers sprayed VERY hard! The pool was very dissapointing and tiny. There was mo deep end and it was very shalow to swim. It was dirty and made me uncomfortable. The sauna was broken. The extersize room was very small with only two machines. Dinner was very expensive, so luckily there was a great Mexican restraint around the corner. Luckily for parking there was one spot availible, but otherwise you had to cross a busy street far from the hotel on a parking ramp. The heat was messed up and the vent was loud and distracting. The room was supposed to have a hairdryer, but it was missing. In the morning, we used our purchased breakfast cards to go and eat, but apparently it ended at nine and we were left to walk to find someplace. The workers didn't say anything to help us find a place, and didn't seem to care. This was a rediculous stay, hard to get to and very dissapointing. NEVER staying here again.

We are disappointed that you did not enjoy your stay and found the property did not meet your expectations. The team will review your comments and share them with the staff, as we take customer service very seriously. We will also review how we are explaining the hotel amenities and services regarding parking and ensure they are explaining that the parking ramp is connected to the building and breakfast serving times. We appreciate your comments. Thank you.
