After having read several other reviews, we were somewhat reluctant to even drive the 50 miles to eat at the Steak Pit, but several friends had eaten there previously and were not disappointed, so our group of six decided to take a chance. We were pleasantly surprised by the place and had a wonderful dining experience. The decor in the place was amazing as others had stated. Overlooking Lake Superior's bay and seeing the Ashland shoreline was no disappointment for sure. The restaurant itself is rather large, but well laid out with a nice division of the dining room with beautiful plasma cut fish images with walls. We really found the background music being played to be set at a perfect level in which we could still hear everyone's conversations but not from the other tables. Everyone tried a different steak and all were extremely pleased with the quality of the meat and how it was prepared. Everyone got their steaks the way they ordered them on the first try. The salads were a little disappointment, but the house soup was excellent. The wait staff was fantastic. She served most of the dining room tables which were full and did an outstanding job in making sure that she checked back several times throughout the dinner. She was extremely pleasant as well. Overall, we had no complaints about the place and would return in the future. We were surprised that while sitting in the bar area for a drink prior to dinner that one couple had ordered a house made pizza that really caught our attention. Several in our group were thinking of ordering it for dinner but were informed that it was bar food service only. It's a shame, because it really looked pretty good, but the steaks made up for it......I would recommend this place to others.
