“Nice change from the Canal Park scene”
Reviewed June 28, 2010

We were in the area for a youth soccer tournament and our group stayed in Superior. My husband and I read reviews about this place and checked it out, rather than hanging with the group at the usual places in Canal Park. We are really glad we did. The atmosphere was funky and the waitress was very friendly and informative. The brews were very good and we had the special for the evening (vegetable soup) and a small pizza. It was quite delish. The live music earlier in the evening was pleasant and mellow. When that set was over, a group of rockers were setting up. Didn't stay to check them out.

“It's fun to watch this endearing little place grow up”
Reviewed February 23, 2010

Started by some fairly young people, "The Pagan" is one of the most laid back yet interesting places to spend an evening. Beverages include an entire range of house-brewed concoctions to suit every taste, from pale ale to hard cider to serious stouts! They always have an English style hand pump variety available. I've been here a few times just for the brew, which seems to evolve over time, so there's always a reason to go back and try the latest. If it's your first time, I'd recommend doing the tasting, assuming you enjoy a wide range of beers, and then just picking up a growler of your favorite to take away (don't want to be inebriated if you have to drive back over that long bridge to Duluth – save it for later).

The food – the specialty is their fresh house made pizza – is all above average, and they have no problems letting you order it without meat or cheese or whatever else you don't want on it. It's also nice to be able to eat in Wisconsin and not come away smelling of smoke (the place is smoke-free).

You can entertain yourself by enjoying their collection of antique bar signs, which adorn their warehouse walls, although they've had a lot of live local entertainment these days, with two different performers on the weekend evenings. They tend to feature smaller groups playing the familiar & folksy – something to make you smile – just what you'd expect in this venue.

“Wonderful Change”
Reviewed December 20, 2009

My wife and I were visiting Superior from Thunder Bay and noticed the sign " Thirsty Pagan " What a wonderful visit we had . Great home made pizza and " home made beer " . Friendly staff allowed us to sample before ordering the beer . We have since been back 3 times and have enjoyed a new beer list which changes with the season . Home made sub sandwiches were also excellent and beats the fare at franchise restaurants . We usually visit about supper time so no noise problem from music lovers. We hope to visit again soon and quench our thirst with a quality brew and good food .

“Good local brews in a great vintage atmosphere!”
Reviewed July 3, 2009

This is a good vintage-shabby chic type of place to hang out and drink local brews and eat nicely-prepared homemade pizza. It's also a good place to try different micro-brews. The staff will let you sample a couple or you can order an eight small glass sampler of their excellent local beers. (Highly recommended) The menu is limited but the pizza was reasonably-priced and tasty. The owners are very progressive and even imposed their own smoking ban before the state of Wisconsin signed it into law. (Which, as a non-smoker was a welcome change). We listened to live music there which was good but a little loud for the space. Overall, a very good and comfortable microbrewery which is ideal for a casual date or an evening out with friends.

“Best beer in town by far...”
Reviewed July 17, 2008

Best beer in town by far and their food isn't too shabby either. Great pizza and I just tried my first sandwich from there, it was crazy good. Though I'm not a big fan of all the hippies.
