We stopped in at Plate & Barrel last night. WOW! We have longed for a tapas/wine/cocktail bar on the east side of Madison/Sun Prairie for a long, long time. Woo hoo! This place rocks! First, cocktail...yummy, creative, not skimpy. :) Tapas...where to begin, had an amazing salad with scallops, roasted red peppers, onions, pears, candied walnuts and hot bacon dressing- it was one of the best salad combos we've ever had! Bacon wrapped dates with goat cheese...Amen!! The list goes on...(we sampled a lot) and everything was delicious. On top of the great food, the service was outstanding. It was busy, but they were totally on top of drinks, food, etc. We met Tom, the owner. What a nice guy! He is committed to high quality, fresh, tasty food. He was helping at the bar. One of those guys who you meet for the first time and feel like you've been friends forever. If you haven't been to this place yet, you must go!! We loved it, met some nice folks from Cottage Grove and had a fabulous time. Thanks Tom for taking the 'east side' dining experience to the next level!! We will be back :)

We frequent their other restaurant Buck and Honeys and really like it so we thought we'd try Plate and Barrel. It's FANTASTIC! The wine and drink list is pretty extensive and the tapas are really good, many could be a single small entree. We will definitely be back!!!!

The food was tasty. The tapas style really makes it easy to share with friends. But most likely you will not share, seriously. The Plate and Barrel salad with scallops was delicious, scallops were perfectly cooked. One ofthe specialswas the stuffed pork over a need of sweet potatoes and a little cranberry roulad. Come early and get the happy hour drink specials and the tapas specials. The only one negative is that it is a bit noisy.

My parents and I dined at Plate & Barrel on a Saturday afternoon. Needless to say we brought a variety of tastes. My dad is definitely a meat and potatoes kind of guy and her beer taste runs to Bud. That being said, he tried a Stella Artois and really enjoyed it! I had the white sangria and my mom stuck with water (which comes in a stylish bottle)
We started our meal with a three cheese artisan cheese board (you can choose 3, 4, or 5 cheeses). It arrived with our cheeses -- Shaft's 1 year Blue, Block and Barrel Goat, and Belgioso Parmesan -- as well as nuts, compote, fresh fruit, and Madison Sourdough bread. YUM! Our server was attentive and suggested various ways to pair the variety of tastes.
Each of us order two tapas and were very pleased with our choices! Dad got Wisconsin Grass-fed Beef sliders as well as stuffed anchovies the latter of the two being shared by Mom and Dad. I ordered Polenta Stuffed Mushrooms and Baked Scallops. The three of us thoroughly enjoyed both items! The scallops were wonderfully baked with spinach and mushrooms and came with fresh made cornbread. Next up was the Sausage and Polenta dish (ordered by Mom). Just a hint of spice that was wonderfully paired with the polenta. Finally, the special of the day was walleye. It was tough (hah!) but we finished off our meal with delicious fingerling pieces with a spicy sauce drizzled over the top.
Overall WONDERFUL dining experience. The food, the drinks, the ambiance, and the service were excellent and I will definitely be going back . . . in about four and a half hours. :D Happy Hour daily from 4-5:30 PM.
