“Great room!”
Reviewed November 27, 2012

I would definitely like to visit Sturgeon Bay again soon! The staff at the Inn were very welcoming and accommodating! The Inn is so close to the main street that we could walk to dinner and shopping easily. We loved the layout of the room, the wood burning fireplace was wonderful, the bed was perfect and we used the small couch to watch a movie. It was all good! Wish I were still there!

We have beenthere twice now and have enjoy wonderful hospitality, clean rooms and pampered acommendations. In comparision to other Door County B & B's the cost was very reasonable. The breakfast was "ok" better than some not as good as others. We will definately go back.

It's hard to review a B&B, since rooms can be so different, so first a general review, and then a review of suite 17. As described by others, the grounds are beautiful, and the lobby of the main house looked very nice. I had tried to reach the inn via Facebook, email, and a phone call with a question about check-in, and never got a call back. While I understand that B&B's are a little more casual than a hotel, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a return communication within 48 hrs. When we did check in, the woman working was very nice and showed us to our room. It was a very large single room, as opposed to a traditional suite with separate sitting and sleeping areas. The jacuzzi tub was huge, and very comfortable, and the windows looking out on our private porch with Christmas lights were great. The room also had a very nice stereo system, with a multi-CD player. So, why the negative review? The first word in Bed and Breakfast is "bed", and this bed was terrible. It was the most uncomfortable, hard bed I've ever tried to sleep on. Unlike most B&B's with super plush, fluffy linens, the pillows were thin, cheap, foam pillows. The comforter was also thin, and the sheets were not what I would expect from a room where we paid over $200/nt off-season. Even the towels provided felt like what you would expect from a value class motel. After tossing and turning, my wife and I actually made the decision to bail out, and drove 2 1/2 hours home. Since it was so late, we did not make the attempt to switch rooms, so I cannot say whether our request would have been taken care of. Again, I cannot speak for all the rooms, but Suite 17 was a huge disappointment. Spoke with the owner this morning, and after implying that everyone else loves the bedding, he said, he wished we would have called because he keeps a couple of featherbeds and foam mattress toppers for when folks complain. No offer of a discount on a future stay, and a pretty poor job of service recovery. When we talked about the poor communication, he said they delete most emails because they get so much spam, and must have missed the answering machine message and facebook message. When I mentioned similar reviews on TripAdvisor, he said he doesn't really look at Trip Advisor. Maybe he should.

We love to stay in Sturgeon Bay and were recently disappointed by our usual B&B so we decided to try White Lace Inn. The room was clean but very uncomfortable. If you wanted to watch television, you could only watch it from the bed or the whirlpool tub. We were tempted to sit in the empty tub. The shower had two shower heads - one gave only cold water and the other needed 20 minutes to warm up. The water pressure was slight - like a public restroom hand sink. We never saw the cookies - or we offered any cookies! The breakfast was merger - served on a dessert sized plate. We will not be back - very disappointing!

Dennis the Inn keeper and the staff did a great job. Very flexible to meet your every need. Location was perfect. We stayed in room 3. This would be a great place for a family girls weekend away. Food was fantastic, and when we requested oatmeal on a day we wanted to skip the sweets and it was perfectly made. I hate runny Oatmeal! Really beautiful landscaping. We showed up late and there as a free chest of iced beer waiting at the door. Dennis recommended several restaurants and we thoroughly enjoyed The Inn at Cedar Crossings, and for late night the Neighborhood pub was great. The Sturgeon Bay festival was going on in town with a great car show and great music. Bed was a double and a little soft but overall a great stay!

We spent our anniversary at the White Lace Inn and we felt at home. We've stayed many times over the past decade and usually enjoy it as a home base as we explore Door County. Much has changed over time, but we still find it to feel like our home away from home. We used to get these "welcome notes" which was a nice touch, but that seems to be no longer their practice... Bonnie appears not to be involved (I do miss her), but we felt Dennis and the other staff do a fine job. And, of course, the cookies... I think I gained a pound just in cookies!

Room Tip: We've stuck to the main house-- Orchard and the suite are lovely.

We were in the garden house. Our room was cozy and quiet, our bed was comfortable. We had a small porch and with the windows open, we could here the waterfallin the pond. The bathroom was roomy enough with good water pressure although the water was very hard. The a/c woke us up squealing in the night, but they provided a fan, and it stayed cool enough to keep the windows open. The breakfast was not acceptable. We did not know what to expect and we were not asked about our pref, there was one option (they feed 16 rooms) other inns give us options. The choices we had were not gourmet and our first meal had peppers, needless to say I didn't have breakfast that day. The dog was a problem for me, because he kept barking at another guest who had fed him. If I were to stay again, I would request a discount to forgo the breakfast. There are plenty of great places to dine (lots of bakeries and ice creameries) so skipping breakfast would be a good idea.
