“Nice comfortable hotel”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

This is a big family hotel which is very popular especially at weekends - when we were there it was packed ! It is across the road from a motor race track which is also very popular - that might be why the hotel was so busy. Mind you it could be due to the large hotel swimming pool - just to warn you that nearly all the windows are jammed shut so fresh air is at a premium in there. The pool gets full of children and they were certainly all having a great time (even before breakfast). Speaking of which the breakfast room looks onto the pool which is a nice touch. Breakfasts are good at this hotel - a good selection of both hot and cold food, fruit, drinks, etc. We had a very comfortable room with two double beds in it - everything worked and everything was clean and tidy. Yes the hotel is a little warn and tired but we had no complaints at all and, if we are in the area will stay at this hotel again.

Very nice place with clean large rooms. Great location for visiting all of Door County. We checked in and then drove up to the end of the penisular and back. The next morning we went to the lighthouses in the immediate area.
The breakfast offers a variety of anything you want from scrambled or boiled eggs and sausage to hot waffles. The front desk took care of barking dogs immediately.

I have to agree with some of the other reviewers. This place was very good in customer service, but the place is dated inside and outside. We didn't see the sign in front because of the tree branches hanging in front of it. Passed it right by twice. Then came down the side road and there were no signs at all for what this place was. It was very confusing. The gal at the desk was friendly but a bit overwhelmed by a busy weekend. The hotel was sold out. Our toilet started leaking which they couldn't fix until the next day. The bed was very comfortable and plenty of pillows. The big TV was awesome but not too many channels I liked to watch. The hallway seems overly dark because of the dark carpeting. The stairwells are confusing by the pool and the kids went up the wrong ones to find themselves on the other side of the motel. Maybe a sign with room numbers by the door would help. The breakfast room was big and there was plenty to eat at 7 am. The kids came later and nothing was left except some mini muffins and a little waffle mix. They were out of everything. No orange juice, milk, apple juice, only coffee. No eggs or sausages left, no boiled eggs or yogurt. Very disappointing. If food is an issue maybe the people need to know they may not get much unless they come early. Otherwise keep the stuff filled until 9 am please. The pool was very cold but the air very humid and hard to breathe. The hot tub was really hot. The pool is small and doesn't hold many people considering how many rooms this hotel has. There were plenty of towels, but they were like sandpaper.
Asked for directions to places and the gal did her best, at least we were able to find things.

I was disappointed by the fact there is only 1 lobby computer which has multiple passwords and is not easy to get in to. Would love a 2nd one. Don't usually travel with our laptop on vacation. Never did make it back down to use the computer when it was free. The lobby is quite large and could be divided up into more office space and relaxing space with a little planning. All in all it was a decent place but quite pricey for what they have. Shop for a deal if you want to stay here.

Room Tip: No elevator to the second floor so carry light luggage. The AC was loud but worked well. Our room...

We were told this hotel went under new management about 3-4 years ago. The staff are all great, each one giving good customer service. Items of note: The outside of the hotel needs work - painting, cleaning etc. The inside lobby is outdated and the common area hallways need new carpeting but we did have a large, clean room with a firm bed, (we were told all the rooms received new bedding last year.) but a basic room, none the less. Breakfast is offered from 6 am to 9 am but arriving after about 8 am will find shortages in some of the food offerings (eggs, yogurts, coffee) and staff struggling to keep up with replenishing what's left. The packets of instant hot cereal were hard and clumped. The pool area is OK but also needs updating/refreshing. The pool is large but cold, the whirlpool is very, very warm. The pool towels offered were very thin and rough.

Large, clean, comfortable room and bathroom. Very friendly and courteous staff. The hotel was fully booked and it showed it during breakfast (ran out of scrambled eggs, staff could not keep up with clean dishes, emptying garbage cans). Other than that, it was an average 2-night stay for a wonderful Door County weekend.

My husband and I checked in at 5pm and were told our room was not ready. They estimated it could take up to an hour. We came back to check on our room 1 hour later, they sent someone up to check the status and we were told it still was not cleaned, when we asked how long they stated they didnt know. We waited and additional 30 minutes to find the room had still not been started. The front desk staff was rude, rolling eyes when she answered the phone and never once said she was sorry for our wait. We will not return.

Room Tip: Dont check in when you already see the front desk staff rolling their eyes when answering the teleph...

We needed a dog-friendly spot while traveling for a wedding in Door County. Great area for the continental breakfast, kids (4 and 7) loved the indoor pool, McD across the street, easy spots to walk the dog. Only complaint would be a lack of signage on the hotel when you are arriving from 14th, otherwise a great stay. Would definitely recommend for families with kids and/or dogs!
