“Disappointed with Stone Harbor”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2014

We would not stay here again. A big conference hotel is quite different from a smaller facility. There are 176 rooms here and only two ice machines. Ridiculous. The front desk staff were courteous but not friendly. Check in time is 3 p.m. and we had to wait until 3:45 for housekeeping to finish our room. This is an inconvenience to travelers who have been on the road for hours and reflects inefficiency by hotel's management to have adequate personnel in housekeeping. We were told "housekeeping is under a lot of pressure." That is not OUR problem.

Our room had no microwave nor refrigerator which usually come standard in the hotels we frequent. Maybe these are available in other rooms at Stone Harbor, but we did not ask when making the reservation. So be forewarned if these are amenities that you need or expect in a hotel.

We liked being in downtown Sturgeon Bay. There are also Stone Harbor Condos adjacent to the Conference Center but I do not know if they are available for renting.

Room Tip: Our room was next door to the bar and they had live loud music on the weekends.

Stone Harbor Resort is the perfect place to start your Door County vacation, or stay and play in Sturgeon Bay. This large complex has all the amenities for meetings, weddings or family vacations in a suite loft. The level of customer service was outstanding, warm and friendly. Meals were exceptional in the restaurant or on the patio.

The best thing about Stone Harbor is its location right on Sturgeon Bay where you can stroll along the wide bay walk, step aboard a boat in the marina, or just watch the nearby bridge open and close to let the boats through. There is "yachts" to see, including yachts built by Palmer Johnson which is headquartered next door. A quaint downtown is steps away. We also liked the well-done Door County Maritime Museum nearby with lots of exhibits and a tugboat tour.

We stayed for a wedding held in town and the reception was also at the Stone Harbor. The hotel room was cute but for the $$ was quite small - we had a King Size bed. The bathroom too was quite tiny. All in all it was a nice stay but a little pricey for the size of the room.
The restaurant was great - good food and great wait staff.

My wife and I stayed here July 13 - 16 for a long-planned visit to Wisconsin's Door County. The hotel served very well as a base for our daily travels because of its location; it also has a restaurant and pub and we used both.

The hotel is located along a river channel and there are ample places to just relax and watch boats go by, which we did every night we were there.

There are some shops and restaurants just a few blocks away.

Overall, the service was very good and the entire hotel was clean and well maintained; we did not use the outdoor pool while there due to chilly weather but the layout and availability of chairs were very noticeable.

We had a very nice room with plenty of space and it included a kitchen with refrigerator, oven, microwave, dishmachine, coffeemaker, dishes and more. And there was a fireplace that we almost used!

The only real issue we had - and it was minor - was a musty odor when the AC was turned off and the room became warmer; it reminded me of a carpet that has been shampooed and not completely rinsed ( soap residue left in the carpet ). My wife called room service late at night to ask for an air freshener but was told they didn't have any; because it wasn't a big hassle and because we didn't spend a lot of time in the room we just let it go. Perhaps the room needs a good airing out.

Overall, it was a very nice stay, the price was reasonable ( about $450 for three nights )
and I would recommend it.

Room Tip: some rooms have balconies, others look out over the river channel and drawbridge

1st tip if staying here is to make sure you request a room with a view of the canal / bridge. The views are amazing and my boys loved watching the boats come and go. The room was neat and clean and very spacious. The people that work here are very helpful and nice. Highly recommend staying here.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 3 days while he presented at a conference. It was a wonderful stay. The room was quiet and the bed was very comfortable. I found foam pillows in the closet and they were just fine. The restaurant was good for lunch. Everyone was friendly and accommodating. It has a beautiful walkway along the harbor. We watched the sun go down one night. It is convenient to the highway to travel up the peninsula to shop and see the sights. Although we did not use them, the two pools looked great! We were very pleased with our mini-vacation in Sturgeon Bay.

This property is all around gorgeous. The views of the harbor are spectacular, especially from one of the private suite balconies at night. The layouts of the rooms vary and there is a type of room to accommodate the needs of any size travel party. We stayed in a 2 bedroom premier loft suite. The room was nicely decorated. The windows are of a good quality and can be opened to allow fresh air in from the water. I was able to adjust the sunlight coming into the room exactly to my liking with the many windows, quality 2" wooden blinds and beautiful window shades. The ambiance was fantastic. The beds were neither uncomfortable or extremely comfortable, they were average. The pool facility was adequate and clean. The staff that I had contact with were not overly friendly but were polite. The negatives of the room were minor enough for me that they did not change my opinion of the resort overall. The electric fireplace in the living room did not work and, due to our late arrival, I did not call to let them know so I'm not sure what type of resolution would have been offered but since the hotel was at full capacity and I wasn't interested in sharing my evening with the repair man, I decided to just let it be. The room was "clean" in all the obvious places but the light beige carpet had several stains and the walls could have used a fresh coat of paint in the kitchen/dining area. The kitchenette included dishes and cutlery but there were quite a few pieces missing as though they were not ever replenished when lost or broken (no bowls, 3 small plates, 2 glasses, 4 mugs, 2 spoons, 7 knives, etc,). Luckily we had brought along disposables so it wasn't an issue for us. The bar and grill in the resort has very good food and excellent, professional service. In fact, we decided to book our stay here based on past experiences we had at the restaurant while traveling through Sturgeon Bay on previous trips. Overall, I am satisfied with this stay and would recommend to others. The place is gorgeous!

Room Tip: Get a suite with a balcony view of the Harbor! A must! You won't regret it.
