Owner description: Originally designed as a City of Chicago Fireboat, the “Fred A. Busse” was built in Bay City, Michigan in 1937 and is similar to two other fire fighting vessels, the Victor Schlaeger and the Joseph Medill, constructed in Sturgeon Bay shortly after World War II. It served the Chicago Fire Department for many years and now houses a small museum dedicated to Chicago’s firefighting efforts.

“Fun way to see the bay”
Reviewed July 11, 2013

Just the right amount of time (2 hours) to go out and see Sturgeon Bay from the water. It's an old fireboat from Chicago built in the 30's. Kids would love it. The service by the crew is wonderful. Very informative.

“Sunset Cruise was Lovely”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

We had a lovely time with our family on the Fireboat Sunset Cruise. Since the Sturgeon Bay Odyssey sunset cruises ceased operation last year, I believe the Fireboat is successfully filling that void. The staff was very friendly and checked with us multiple times that everything was going well. There are drinks and snacks available on board. The trip is about 90 min long, and the views of the sunset were breathtaking. I'd recommend this to anyone visiting Sturgeon Bay that wants a lovely trip on the water. My only request would be that they upgrade the music, it reminded me of the music on the booze cruises in Mexico and this is not quite the same atmosphere (in a good way!).

“Pleasant tour”
Reviewed September 29, 2012

My wife, brother. his wife & I wanted to take a little boat tour of the area, the Fireboat Cruise worked well for us.

They are located outside of the Door County Maritime Museum. You pay right at the boat (they accept credit cards) and then board. There is seating for about 20 in the front of the captain's cabin and a covered deck area for about 60 (I'm guessing) in the rear area. There is no area that is completely enclosed and out of the elements, so plan accordingly. The seating were benches and plastic deck chairs.

It was a beautiful day so we enjoyed the entire 1 1/2 hour trip in the front. They have two tours; we went from the harbor west toward Greenbay Bay to Sherwood Point Lighthouse. The tour commentary was interesting -- telling some local history and info about the ship building and yacht building businesses, area bridges, area parks and the bay. The fireboat part is pretty lame as they bring out a hose and run water through the hose into the bay. Little kids enjoyed holding the fire hose, but it was otherwise not much. So don't expect a big fire boat show. The staff were very relaxed and friendly. There are drinks and snacks on board for purchase.

We had a relaxing ride that was exactly 1 1/2 hours and a nice way to spend part of the afternoon.

“nice ride”
Reviewed August 27, 2012

This is a very nice boat ride along the shore line. They take you down to the light house and back. There is snacks and drinks you can buy. They let you spray the firehose. A nice little trip for the whole family.

It was a hot day but saw beautiful and interesting sites. Kids on the boat enjoyed the water hose. Beautiful history told and viewed on boat.
