Description: Located in downtown Sturgeon Bay on Historic Third Avenue in beautiful Door County, Wisconsin. Choose to dine at the bar, at a bistro table along the sidewalk or relax on a cushioned chair in the cozy wood floor dining room. Large photos focusing on the history of Sturgeon Bay pepper the restaurant. The new chef has a strong bent on creativity and local sourcing. His philosophy for features is "Familiar enough to be comfortable but exotic enough to be exciting." The focus is on local and fresh (organic features, and appetizers, in season) is apparent, and when blended with the passion of the staff, it is becoming a foodie destination. We will work with any and all dietary restrictions or food allergies. Ask about "Chefs Choice" options. Call for reservations or a chef consultation for that special occasion.

“Disappointed”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

We had been to John Martin's Restaurant previously but were majorly disappointed in the service and food over Memorial weekend. Our food took a ridiculously long time...the waitress said that unfortunately, a larger order (for six people) slipped ahead of our order for two. Then they ran out of bread and told us it would be "just six minutes" until the bread was out of the oven. When our food arrived, the soup was cold. The pasta primavera was a disappointment. The pasta was soggy and I couldn't find the "primavera" vegetables...there were a few slivers of possibly peppers and zucchini. It was swimming in oil and had no flavor. It was our 25th wedding anniversary dinner and I am still mad over the disappointing evening. On a good note, my husband thought the meatloaf was good.

“Good lunches, generous portions”
Reviewed May 27, 2013

My wife and I stopped for lunch last year and again this year and the service, food quality, and experience was very consistent. The food portions seem to have gone up which is not something you hear about much. Overall they have a limited selection of beer and wine (no hard liquor) but the food is excellent and the staff is attentive without being intrusive. We'll be back again.

“Go For Dinner!”
Reviewed April 6, 2013

I have gone here for business lunches and dinner with family. The dinner menu is extensive and we have not been disappointed. However the past 2 lunches I've had haven't been the same. My companion's food (burger)was just average and her chips were overdone. Vegetable manicotti very skimpy on veggies but arugula was robust. Staff continues to be friendly. They are just good for lunch but excellent for dinner and the soups are consistently very good. Mango Fig salad excellent and is on the lunch menu. Environemnt friendly and welcoming to all even kids. I will continue to visit especially for the Pork and fish entrees.

“Exellent food!”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

A bit on the pricey side for a more casual atmosphere but the food was amazing. Ordered the Thyme Crusted Whitefish and it was a larger portion than I expected. Thumbs up to that.

“Change of staff”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

We have been long term fans, but the chef and manager have left. The food and ambiance are diminished. We went for a special dinner and were disappointed.
