We stayed at the Lodge July 29 and 30th. The staff could not be nicer. They went out of the way to make sure our stay was exceptional. Staff made sure we were happy with our room. Since it has recently re-opened after being closed for 3 years, it needs a little work. Overall, the resort is in GREAT shape. The beds were comfortable. We only ate breakfast there, but very much enjoyed the continental breakfast, with the omelet station. The menus looked great for lunch and dinner in both of the restaurants. We were gone all day, doing our Door County Antiquing and shopping, so we ate on the road. I highly recommend the Lodge!!! It also had special re-opening rates, which was a plus. It has the Madelyn Marina, so you would have a place for your boat, or could charter a boat.

I visited the Lodge at Leathem Smith during my last fishing tournament. The accommodations were great - I stayed in the Captains suite. The resort is very fisherman friendly - both for those anglers going out on a charter - or those anglers who have brought their own boat. The resort had plenty of room to park my boat - and more importantly for a fisherman, a place to plug the boat in to charge the batteries. Fishing was great while I was there, and the Lodge offers a unique service - they will vacuum seal and freeze your catch. I ate dinner every night I was there - either at Kona Bay Fish House or at Opels. Kona Bay has a filet on the menu - rolled in crushed Kona coffee, which sounded very odd, but turned out to be great. Kona Bay has a great bar, where many guests ended each night telling their fish stories from the day. I have already made reservations for a second stay - looking forward to more time fishing Sturgeon Bay.

Room Tip: Rooms are $89 Mon-Thursday - All Suites face the grassy pool area - less noise and a better view.

This was our family's first trip to Door County. We were pleasantly surprised with our delightful stay at The Lodge. From the minute we were greeted upon check in right until the moment we checked out, our every whim was catered to, and every need met. The continental breakfast far surpassed our expectations with an amazing omelette bar, fresh fruit and hot coffee. My children were treated as valued guests. The staff was courteous and accommodating. Our room was clean, and provided ample space for a family of five. We definitely plan to return!

The new ownership is outstanding!! This was our first time to the Lodge. The owner (Paul Meleen) personally came to our table to tell us about our dinner selections and made sure everything was perfect throughout our stay. The staff was unbelievably helpful and accommodating. We got up at 3:45 am to go fishing and they had food boxed up and ready to go for us. The next morning they asked if we wanted coffee for our fishing trip; they actually gave us two pots of coffee to go! Food, accommodations, staff were all outstanding. We will certainly be back.

My family and I stayed overnight recently and were pleasantly surprised at the wonderful improvements that have been made at the lodge. The staff was friendly and attentive. The room and facilities were clean even though they are still in the process of updating. Our room was spacious and had a patio that overlooked the grounds. It was very quiet at night and it made for a good nights sleep (not always the case when staying in hotels). The breakfast, which was included in the price of the room, was not your standard continental breakfast, it included fresh omelets made to order and scones. The cook was very friendly and went out of his way to make sure the omelets were to our liking. The pool, although it shows its age, was warm and clean. It is near the marina so it provides a opportunity to walk along the water. I would recommend this hotel without hesitation.

Recently we stayed at Leathem Smith Lodge in Sturgeon Bay WI.
When we arrived, our room had been given away to someone else. We had reserved this room two months earlier. We were given their "last available room", in a dirty , older section of the motel. We were at their mercy,as it was late in the day and we had no place else to stay.
When we complained to the owner the next morning as we checked out, all he would give was a $20 discount off the $120/night room charge.
He said he didn't care about his reputation as the owner of Leathem Smith Lodge of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. He didn't care what the customers thought of Leathem Smith Lodge of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.

He said "I'm one step below God...take it or leave it!" and cursed at us as we left.

Never in all our travels have we had such poor service!

Stay away from this place!

We've just returned from our five day stay at the Leathem Smith Lodge in Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin...Our stay at the Leathem Smith made our trip that much more enjoyable! From the owners to the staff ...everyone made us feel right at home! Our room was very clean and comfortable....and nicely appointed. We ate at the Lodge four of our five nights and every meal was delicious and cooked to our liking....The dining room staff were very personable and attentive.....In the early mornings and/or in the evenings we strolled along the bay that lies just at the bottom of the Lodge's driveway. Plus we enjoyed looking out on the green grounds for breakfast and from the main dinning room we watched a boat or two move along the bay as we ate dinner ..... We found the complimentary continental breakfast [choice of hot and cold cereals, juices, tea, coffee, fruit, muffins and toast] a nice way to start our day.....The history of the Lodge was an interesting plus!....We were very happy that we chose the Leathem Smith Lodge for our "Home" base while visiting Door County!
