We stayed here with an extended family group (grandparents, adult kids, and grandchildren). The kitchen and dining room space was large enough to hold most of us, with overflow in the next door living room. Main floor beds for the grandparents and all others were upstairs. Host Rebecca was gracious and helpful. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Plenty of towels, bedding, etc.
The hotel itself is old- quaint and charming, but certain old features like floors that aren't level. Bathrooms are modern and comfortable. Kitchen is well stocked and has a dishwasher and large fridge. Stockholm is RIGHT on the railroad tracks, and there are many trains that go through town. Bring earplugs if you aren't a sound sleeper. (Some of our group had no trouble sleeping through the trains.)
We enjoyed the park across the street and walking through the town. Stockholm is very small, so expect to bring your food in or eat out.
We are planning to return again.

Liked best:
Large house, can accommodate a large group or family with all onsite.
Liked least:
The old house has settled, and several floors are not level. Stairs upstairs are narrow and steep and might be hard for some people to navigate. Most bedrooms are upstairs.
Traveling group: Extended Family

We enjoyed Vicki and her family staying with us and have invited them back for next year 2016. We value the reviews of our guests and try to implement changes that will make our guests more comfortable. Because our little guest house/hotel facility is in the West Coast of Wisconsin, on the GREAT RIVER road and because of population of 66 in the village of Stockholm, we do not have large grocery stores or gas stations, etc. That is why we live here, to be away from the big city life and signs. We try hard to advise our guests ahead of time on what to expect and prepare for, specifically food items and beverages. Vicki planned well and listened and asked questions ahead of time and made family so comfortable. This group took advantage of many local options, such as the park across the street and pier on Lake Pepin, they walked to church sunday morning one block away, they used the fire pit and the wood we stock it with, they frequented the village shops for pie and ice cream and baked goods, and the yarn shop/craft store and so forth! We enjoyed seeing their kids out on the sidewalk selling lake shells and having a good time!
This facility was a train hotel at one point, and the old train station was across the street--currently our village is on the docket to have a "Quiet Zone" put in . . .BNSF assured us it would be done by OCT 2015, but they seem to be a bit behind, so hopefully, the trains will not blow their whistle soon. In the mean time, it is a blast from the past hearing the trains.
Our focus for guests is to experience the Laura Ingalls Wilder area, since she was born about 9 miles from our little hotel facility. We enjoy giving out our best hikes to MAIDEN ROCK Bluff, 2 miles out and other wonderful trails. The village has free blue bikes in the summer for all our village guests to use. There is blue berry picking and wading in the creeks at Pine Creek and Rush River . . . one can go to the Pizza Farm for a wonderful pizza and picnic with the earth! Swimming at the public beach in Pepin at the marina with lovely clean facilities and we can go on and on with family activities that are low budget as well as fine dining options and several wineries within 20 miles . . . I get excited talking about it!
Thanks Vicki and family!
Sincerely,
Rebecca & Jeff
PS: We are still working out bugs . . .we opened on June 1 of 2014 and have been mostly full since and learning so much. We thank all our supportive community and guests from the past and present for contributing to this first year +. It has been great!
