“Great place to stay!!”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

We stayed here on a recent snowmobile trip. We had not planned on staying here, and found this hotel right on the trail. We were not sure what to expect. We were so happy to have ended up here. The room was great, the price was even better, and the staff was wonderful. Very clean rooms and very comfy beds!

My family just had a reunion there the first weekend in 2013. There was about 40 of us that stayed and it was great. We rented the suite as well and that worked out perfect for us to hang out (living room, kitchen, big screen tv). Pam gave us everything and asked us countless times if we needed anything. Rick from the restaurant cooked our food for the entire weekend. The food was delicious especially the friday night fish! Service was a little slow but worth the wait. Pizzas are great too! Kids loved the game room and pool as well! Liked it so much, going back again this summer! Great value!

Room Tip: If the suite is available and you have kids, it is well worth the extra dollars to have that extra s...

I've been staying here for more than a decade, and it's always my first choice when in Spring Green.

At the end of the day, it's just a roadside motel, but as the genre goes, it's about as good as they get.

Pros: Abundant Wisconsin charm everywhere you look, spacious rooms, friendly staff, new beds (2012), terrific architecture, year-round heated pool in an awesome/authentic round barn, location, decent restaurant and bar.

Cons: Sells out during busy weekends. I believe the owners just acquired an overflow property on the other side of Hwy 14. Avoid that place, as it doesn't have any charm whatsoever. You want to be in the main lodge.

I popped in for a surprise tour last weekend after staying at another place in Spring Green that I was not happy with. The moment I walked thru the doors I was enjoying what I was seeing. Very clean and warm atmosphere. Pam was working the front desk and was more then willing to give me tour. The room sizes are very nice and big. The bed is just amazing...so comfortable and 4 pillows, plus 2 decorative pillows. Great sleeping. The room had a good size dining table, refrigerator, microwave, dresser and closet space. Nice size gliding chair. Beautiful decorated room with fire place and wall mounted large TV. The pool, hot tub were very clean and relaxing. The exercise room was nice and I used it several times daily. Their game room is nice, though I didn't play any games. The attached restaurant had excellent food. We had brought along our own food for meals and didn't tough a thing we brought. The prices were very reasonable and the chef and make a mean lasagna! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful both in the lodge and restaurant. Pam made our stay so nice. We felt very welcome there. We were defiantly be returning and highly recommend The Round Barn Lodge.

We stayed here October 27, 2012. We had no idea what to expect in southwest Wisconsin. We had thought the town of Spring Green would be a bit more exciting, based upon the attractions that it is noted for: Taliesin and House on the Rock. Perhaps due to the time of year, things were a bit more quiet than we expected. The lodge was able to accomodate our needs for the evening. Our check in was very simple, polite staff. We had the king size room. The mattress was the best part. The room decor was very plain, not to vivid with color. The view out the window on ground level is plain. The little noise we heard in the hallways and the sound of running water and flushes reminded us that we were not alone in the lodge. We used and enjoyed the pool and the hot tub (all to ourselves). We walked around the lodge to the restaurant and the bar area. A few locals were there, and we were asked if we needed anything from the bar by the bartender. It is located abit away from the mainstrip of Jefferson St. I guess we have to try it again in the high season. But it is worth a second chance.

Room Tip: not much to pick from in this town, but the amenities were our draw, and we used them and enjoyed th...

Two women friends and I stayed here for one night while enjoying the Fall Art Tour in the area. We booked at the last minute and snagged the last two rooms available, but they were kind enough to put us in adjoining rooms. We were on the 2nd floor which will be renovated this winter. The room needed some updating, but was still clean, comfortable, and functional. The shower was powerful, the beds were new, the temperature control functioned well. There were some nicks on the bathroom door, but that wasn't important. Even though the hotel was completely full, it was quiet. We never heard people in the halls, door closing, etc.
The front desk staff was helpful.

Room Tip: On the first floor, there are some new renovated rooms.

I'll start by saying that the Round Barn has loads of sentimental value for my husband and me -- as we spent our honeymoon here 28 years ago. Several years later, we brought our boys along, who enjoyed the pool and video games. A peek into the lobby some years after that disappointed us as to how the place had fallen to a lack of nurturing.

Then just this past weekend, we took a room when we couldn't get accommodations anywhere else in town. Were we pleasantly surprised! You could tell our clean, loft-like king room had been recently renovated, with gas fireplace, big screen TV, comfy, cushy mattress and linens, a jacuzzi bathtub and Kohler three-setting shower. Large leather rocker and footstool. Large table with chairs. A separate credenza held a small stainless steel refrigerator, newer microwave and a coffee station. Was more like a suite than a room! Plus we received an AAA discount. Didn't use the pool or whirlpool this time, but both looked clean and inviting.

For the past several years we have stayed at the Usonian Inn or Spring Valley Inn whenever we visited town, usually to see a play at the American Players Theater. From now on, we'll stay at the Round Barn, which is surely a superior lodging. The only caveat: The Round Barn Restaurant. My breakfast salmon omelette was salty enough to be almost inedible, while the potato pancakes were dry and tasteless. My husband's oatmeal was hard enough to hold a spoon up in the air. There were hardly any other people seated at the restaurant on an otherwise busy summer weekend anywhere else in Spring Green. There was good reason. Suggestion: Go to Carlito's down the street instead for a superior home-cooked breakfast.

Interesting story we heard during a "behind-the-scenes" theater tour at the American Players Theater: More than 30 years ago, the APT theater founders from out east were to meet area realtors at the Round Barn Lodge. When the prospective theater owners arrived at the lodge, which is designed around a former round barn, they said "This is perfect!" The realtors had to explain that the lodge was only their meeting place, and the land they planned showing for them for their theater was elsewhere. The current location of the outdoor American Players Theater is a few miles away from the lodge.

Room Tip: Ask for a king room at the end of the hallway. We were in Room 105, which was beautiful and spacious...
