NOW I know why the brochures don't really seem to do it justice!! Words can not describe this place - you really MUST see to believe. Awesome. The tip: if you are like us, it will take much longer than the staff suggest. Don't try to do all 3 sections in one afternoon. We took two full afternoons to see it at our pace: enjoying and soaking it up. Wear comfy shoes as it is lots of walking.
Not much choice at the cafe if you are vegetarian. Low light makes photo taking hard. Buy extra tokens for the music rooms and machines - they're excellent.

Spent four hours and could easily have spent four more. Would absolutely recommend this for all ages. Amazing exhibits.

The history behind this place is interesting and the initial rooms detailing it are helpful in understanding the why and how of it came to be. The fact that the builder and owner had no college degree and no experience with engineering or architecture make it even more remarkable. The house itself reminded me of Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater in Pennsylvania-----but smaller and darker and certainly more quirky. The collections are huge-----if you are interested in seeing them all it WILL take you an entire day We chose to see the house and the music rooms, the world's largest merry-go-round and circus room and we were there 3 hours. The automated musical creations are a real sight to behold and hear---like NOTHING I have ever seen, and I kept thinking that the person who wrote "Edward Scissorhands" must have seen them and been inspired by them. The carousel is unbelievable as is the room where its housed.
There is a small café which serves pizza and simple sandwiches and beverages, but do not expect a big choice of anything. Although there are ramps down to the historical exhibits (which are great), do NOT expect to see the house and the infinity room if you use a wheelchair or have any mobility problems----the floors are uneven and sloping. This observation is by no means a criticism of this house and its collections---but are determined by where this house and its collections were built. Be sure and call before you visit because it does apparently close from fall to spring.

This place is a dark, musty smelling nightmare. I wanted to yell "fire" just to get out of this dungeon.

The website said to allow 3 hours for all 3 sections, but we were there from 9:30 am - 5 pm and we did not stop to read every story board! We had a nice lunch on site and the guides were very attentive. We would definitely visit the House on the Rock again.
