“Nice ride most scenic is towards the end near Trego, WI”

I would actually choose 3 1/2 stars for this one. If you have a train fan take them. The ride I think was about 1.5 hrs. in length down the tracks and back again. The most scenic portion is near Trego where the landscape and view changes from roads and not much to country with a sweeping view of a tree laden landscape on one side and the Namekagon River on the other. We went in July and had a nice view of tubers going by. You can purchase some snacks on board. Go to the back of the train which becomes the front on the way back for a nice view directly of the tracks and gives you that open air feel along with the open air side views on the train while milling about. This isn't fancy or cheap but it was an enjoyable ride all the same, especially with a train fan or two with you. There's a tiny gift shop at the station. They offer pizza train rides, dinner train rides and more.

“Memorable Anniversary...”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

This past weekend my husband and I had the pleasure of taking in the Dinner and B&B Train ride offered out of Spooner. This was a most fantastic experience. The evening meal was delicious...the train ride was relaxing while we dined. Our hosts, the conductor and porter were very knowledgeable of train history. Sleeping in the berths certainly gave us the authentic feel of an era long gone. We can't wait to take another trip, maybe with our kids and grandkids in tow.

“A unique and true learning experience!”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

How could somebody not want to learn about what it was like to travel on a train a generation ago? We thought we'd try something totally unique and different. The Great Northern Train Ride company offers this Bed and Breakfast Train ride which includes a nice dinner and a stay overnight (for this particular package). The owners have a passion for trains and brought their wonderful idea to the small town of Spooner, Wisconsin.

The owners are wonderful people who are there to make sure you have a great time. The meal was nice and started out with a sampling of cheeses and sausage followed by a salad, soup, main entree and a wonderful lemon cake. Drinks are also served on the train by the kindest bar tending gal, Sharon. Meeting the other guests also makes the trip fun!

We were able to visit the different cars that were attached to the locomotive that day before the train departed on its journey. It was a learning experience to see how everyhing fits into the cars. We also spent the night on the train and it is amazing how they designed these cars to get everything to fit. It is something to see how people lived years ago when traveling by train. What a wonderful opportunity for children to see this also.

I read many of the reviews before going and wasn't sure what to expect. I firmly believe that any trip is what a person makes of it and expects out of it. If you are claustrophobic, then spending the night in tight quarters may not be right for you. The dinner and train ride might be the ticket to pursue. If you want to try something unique and different, then I'd recommend the B & B package. I'm glad we had this opportunity to better understand what it was like living in the past of our grandparents, etc.

The owner has purchased quite a few train cars which are on the tracks in this same area. They are very knowledgeable about trains and the different types of cars and years they were produced, etc. So in addition to the ride and dinner, you may also learn about the train industry. Quite interesting to say the least!......go check this out and in the fall when the trees are turning color, it was beautiful.

“Pizza train ride”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

SUCH a great experience!!! I highly suggest this to people with young kids. The folks on the train were so amazing too! The conductor let my son pretend to run the train on the walkie talkie. They even opened the back door of the train so the kids could get a great view and a wonderful breeze. Although, the view from our seat was just as amazing and with the windows open we were able to enjoy the breeze there too! (And they have a bar for the adults)

“Easy living”

The train ride was wonderful. The sound and feel of a train takes you back to days gone by. As you roll along on the track and see the sights you wonder why we don't have more train transportation. People waved as we waved to them through the windows and it was a rare exchange of communication that we don's always have in this fast pace society. It was great.
