This was an amazing B&B. Jennifer was so nice, and her breakfasts were gourmet AND delicious AND healthy. She was particularly helpful with my friend who is gluten and lactose-intolerant. The rooms were not only spic and span, but they were sweetly, intricately decorated. She had thought of everything, including soft bathrobes. There were cookies in the evening, coffee available upstairs in the morning, chocolates to much on, too. We felt so welcome and so well taken care of. It was a romantic B&B, but it was also a great location for Sparta bicyclers and for canoeists.
Amazing! Probably the best B&B I've ever stayed in...

The innkeeper here has thought of everything. There's a well-stocked buffet with hot & cold drinks, a full cookie jar and lots of other treats. Books, travel guides and maps in the common room along with TV/DVD. Rooms are cozy and comfortable with robes, scuffs, nice toiletries, clock radio, CD player, sound machine and a basket of little things like Band-Aids, Q-tips, scissors. I almost expected to find a pair of clean socks in the bureau drawer. Other guests, biking on the Elroy-Sparta Trail and traveling light, mentioned how helpful it was that the rooms were so well equipped and there was a bike garage too. It was very quiet at night with an occasional train whistle in the distance. Breakfast was delicious with fresh fruit, an egg dish, sausage and a big muffin. There's an Italian restaurant and a café/deli a short walk away. The inn's resident Corgi is very friendly. If you're not a dog lover, don't worry, she's not allowed in the guest areas. But if you do want to pet this cutie go around to the backyard.

My husband and I stayed in the Master Suite in June, 2013 to celebrate our 36th wedding anniversary. The room was spacious, with two Queen Anne chairs, a small dining table with two chairs, a lovely fireplace and mantle, and great lighting. The king bed was very comfortable, with super soft linens. Jennifer even provides a CD player with a variety of romantic CDs--we loved listening to them. The bathroom is spacious and super clean. With the dining table and chairs in our room, we chose to sleep in and enjoy breakfast in our room. That was a nice choice to have. Jennifer is an outstanding cook!! And she served dessert first!! An outstanding cream cheese or sour cream treat topped with fresh sliced peaches and blueberries. Next came hot frittata and muffins and sweet bread. This b&b is in a quiet neighborhood, which is a lovely place to take an evening stroll, which we did. There was a book in the room by the Queen Anne chairs that told all about the Elroy-Spart bicycyle trail. When we looked through the book, we found the perfect place to eat--Slice of Chicago. The author of the book hails from Chicago and verified the taste authenticity of the place. We went to Slice of Chicago and it is the place where lots of locals and visitors love to eat!! They have carryout food as well as 6 or 7 tables for dining. The pizza is excellent, as is the antipasto salad, and service is fast and friendly. When you go to Sparta, Franklin Victorian Inn is the place to stay!!

Room Tip: Two of the rooms have small dining tables and chairs, so breakfast in your suite is an option with t...

I have stayed in many b&b's I the US and Europe and this place had it all. The location was convenient to the town center, easy to get to, beautiful location, quiet, friendly, and the rooms were gorgeous with wonderful beds, bedding and towels. I have never stayed at a b&b that had everything in the room that one might need from a bandaid to toothpaste to an expandable sponge. Kudos to Jennifer and her husband who run a really fine place. The breakfast was excellent - fruit yogurt and granola to start and a puffy egg and ham omelet with blueberry cake to end with wonderful coffee throughout. The decor was authentic and Jennifer had lots of brochures about things to do, places to eat, etc. plus she was a font of information herself. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. Take the historic walking tour of the neighborhood if you have time.

Room Tip: The country room was spacious and had a claw footed tub. Wonderful. Room darkening shades would ha...

My husband and I stayed here as a stop along a 5 day bike riding tour and we absolutely loved it. The rooms were wonderful, everything was immaculate inside and out, breakfast was amazing, and Jennifer didn't miss a thing in making you feel at home. We have already talked to our adult kids about staying here for a weekend family getaway.

For the past several years, we have taken a long weekend golf getaway with friends. We have to select a destination not too far from home every other year. This year, my wife found the Franklin Victorian B&B in Sparta, Wisconsin, not far from the River Run Golf Course that we wanted to play. The Franklin was built in about 1900 by a banker and business man by the name of Williams. Both the interior and exterior of the home are immaculate. We were told that the beautiful woodwork has never been refinished. It was fantastic. A large stained glass window has the Williams family coat of arms. Innkeepers Jennifer and Steve were very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was to die for. Good job, Jennifer! There are four guest rooms. My wife and I had the Franklin Suite, which consisted of a bedroom and very large bathroom that was created from what was originally a bedroom. The suite is on the second floor all the way across the front of the house. The bathroom had a jet tub that my wife truely enjoyed. The rain-type showerhead had great pressure as well. The Franklin is only two blocks from downtown Sparta - the location of some nice restaurants and shops. It is also easy driving distance to the La Crosse-Onalaska area. For a nice get away, the Franklin Victorian is a good choice.

Room Tip: The bathroom in our friend's room was pretty cramped, according to them. Try the Franklin Suite...
