When inquiring about vacancies, the owner hung up on me, saying, "Whatever," when I had asked his name for the intent to call back at a later time to make reservations. Needless to say, I didn't call back at a later time and booked with a friendlier competetor. I've never been so disappointed with a business just from making a phone call.

Recently, I took a site seeing road trip up to Door County from Chicago and stayed over night at the Village View. Nothing fancy, just a very clean, quaint and friendly motel in the heart of Sister Bay. Jim & Tina the owners were both very courteous and helpful; you could tell that they cared about their guests and took great pride in their establishment. They even had free coffee and danish in the morning! Although it was perfect for myself; there wasn't a lot of area where children could play. Village View was certainly an excellent value for the money and certainly exceeded my expectations.

We recently spent a few day at Village View, Sister Bay, Wisconsin. It was a wonderful experience. Part of the buildings date back to the 1800's. The resoration has been done with great emphasis on showing the old with the new. The landscaping was beautiful and colorful and the whole setting was immaculate. Our room was large and clean and quiet. The owners were very friendly as was their staff. It is walking distance to restaurants and shops. All in all it was a great few days. We would recommend it highly.

We were refered to the Village View from our B&B that did not have rooms for a third night. The Village View has a great location in Sister Bay halfway up the Door County Peninsula making everththing convenient. It has a nice location in Sister Bay just across from the boweling alley / supper club, you must go as they have great food, big portions and very reasonable prices.

The motel was clean and modestly appointed, it is a motel only, no pool or other facilities, Tina and Jim do put out some pastries and coffee in the morning. Unlike some of the other reviewers we had a pleasant encounter with Tina and had an interesting conversation on how they came to own the Village View. A very pleasent country type welcome and stay.

It appears the imperfect online reservation system was the instigator of two prior guests poor experience. We called directly and had a good experience.

My sister and I checked into Village View on Thursday September 18. When we checked in we asked if we would be able to cancel our Saturday night reservation (we had booked for 3 nights). Tina told us no but if we checked out and they rented the room for Saturday night our credit cards would be credited that amount. When we checked in we noticed an odor in the room and that it was quite damp. We actually felt the carpet by the wall. We went back to the office and asked if they had had problems with water and were told the carpet had just been shampooed. When we retired for the night both of us noticed dampness in the beds (2 queen) to the point where our clothes felt damp. The next day we turned on the heat in the room to try to dry it out a bit; Friday night it was somewhat better. Other than the dampness it was very clean. We had bought a couple of CDs at one of the shops and Tina even lent us a radio/CD player so we could listen to them...very nice of her. We also let them know again that the room was very damp...Jim shrugged it off and said the windows must need to be opened up (What? At this time of year it would seem that would make it more damp, not less).

However, Saturday we did indeed decide to leave for home. I checked with Jim about the policy and was again told if they rented the room our credit card would be credited. Throughout the day and evening, we made 3 calls to the motel asking about room availability...we were told once they had 1 room witha double bed left, once that they had 1 room with 2 double beds and 1 room with a queen bed, and then, after being specifically questioned if they had a room with 2 queen beds that it was not available. I called immediately after those calls and was told my room had not been rented out. So, if you're looking for honesty you are going to be disappointed. Jim was rude on the phone (didn't surprise me as he was cheating me out of $100.00 - you tend to get defensive when that happens and you get caught). I have contacted the Better Business Bureau.

VVowner, owner at Village View Inn, responded to this reviewResponded October 16, 2008

The guest made a reservation 2 months in advance for three nights and cancelled the last night that morning, wanting us to rent the room. The guest had reserved the room, paid for the room and was responsible for the reservation. The guest wanted us to try to re rent the room.and would call us later in the day to learn if it had been rented. and if not would return to use it. We replied that it would not stand a chance of being re rented if it were not clean and available. Having the room under "option "as to use would not work to get it rented. We cleaned the room, and the guest called twice during the day to see if it had been rented. The guest's daughter then called during the evening asking for accomodations for 5 persons, which we cannot accommodate. The room was not re rented, nor were three others of which we as owners did not realize any rent.
