My wife and I stayed at the Country House for 3 nights in May 2009. Overall our experience was not bad, but not good either. The biggest problem was the smell. It was very musty combined with that old motel soapy smell. We had to take our clothes to the dry cleaner to get the smell out. We kept leaving the patio door open to let it air out but the maids kept closing the door. Unless you are a sound sleeper bring ear plugs. This is an older establishment and you can hear you neighbor plus the walkway to get to the rooms is made from lumber so you can hear shoes on boards.

The grounds are nice and you can see water from almost any room. There is a lot of growth between the edge of the property and the waterline so the view is about 30% obstructed. The breakfast was fine, actually they had more selection than we had anticipated; the cherries were very good. The staff was friendly and helpful.

The other complaint / suggestion is that at an adults only (meaning over age 13) hotel the hot tub should stay open later than 10 PM. One thing we enjoy is a late dinner, some social time, then to sit in the hot tub for a little while before bed. Country House is ADMANT about closing the area too. We met another couple that had stayed at Country House a couple of times and we had a laugh about the fervor at which they tell you to get out when they are ready to leave.

Bottom line is that we would not stay here again. The smell, the noise, and the confusion between being adults only and shutting things down early were more negatives than the nice grounds and nice staff.

Pros
Nice Ground
Nice Staff
Good Location
Nice View
Adults Only (over 13)

Cons
Musty smell
Noise
A little pricey
Hot tub MUST be shut down at 10 pm
Internet worked only in the lobby

My husband and I just returned from our first trip to Door County. The Country House Resort is located on very beautiful grounds, and our 2nd floor room had a beautiful view of the lake (when they say lakeview, they mean it). We liked that it the resort was located off the "main street." The desk staff was very pleasant. The free breakfast in the lobby was nice - plenty of food choices. Hot tea and coffee are always available in the lobby. We enjoyed taking the nature path to town (Siser Bay). The grounds are beautifully landscaped. Our room itself was small but clean. I do have to say that the funishings (i.e. pictures, bedspread, chairs, couch) were very outdated. For what we paid for two nights, I was disappointed. The TV was very small, and we only got limited channels - and considering there is not much to do in Door County after dark (7:00) - we had nothing to do but watch TV in our room! The majority of the guests here are older. All in all, not a bad place to stay, but we will probably never return.

We researched many lodging options before a recent weekend in Door County and can say we were pleasantly surprised by the Country House Resort even after reading all of the positive reviews. We are a married couple in our early 30's with no kids. Bed & Breakfasts just aren't our type, so we focused on resorts/hotels.

Upon arrival, the staff was friendly and the fresh baked cookies were excellent. Once in our room, the view was great. We were worried that being on the first floor would hinder the view, but that was absolutely not the case. We could see the water of Sister Bay and across to a lovely hillside of gently emerging fall colors. The room itself was fairly large and clean. Although it was not brand new, we felt that it was up-to-date and included nice amenities including a refrigerator, microwave, and a corkscrew (to help in sampling that Door County wine!). Perhaps the best features were the large whirlpool and shower. The shower was amazing with 5 total shower heads and plenty of room for two.

The grounds of the resort were absolutely beautiful. Although late in the season, the landscaping was very well done. The walk down to the water could be a challenge for some, but it is definitely worthwhile culminating in a dock where you can relax and take in the sights and sounds of gently crashing water. The property's nature trail along the water was well maintained and very scenic. It truly felt like we had our own little piece of Door County, if just for a little while.

The expanded continental breakfast was very nice with many good options. The location is also excellent. We easily ventured to Fish Creek, Ephraim, Peninsula State Park, and took an easy drive up to Northport. Nothing is very far away.

It seemed like we were the youngest people at the resort during our stay, but that did not bother us. We wanted to spend time together and were not worried about making friends or socializing. The absence of small children was definitely very nice.

All in all, we cannot say enough good things about the Country House Resort and feel like we have found a place that we will definitely return to on future visits to Door County.

Hm...we just came back from Door County (Sister Bay) having stayed at the Country House Resort - having rented their one Penthouse Suite. The grounds are very nice as were the personnel within however for what we paid and what we got there is a fine line. While the suite was pleasantry clean and pleasantly stocked with utensils in the kitchen and bathroom necessities this was not worth it to us. We've paid far less and gotten far more actually in other top end rentals. The suite was right off the lobby unbeknownst to us so everyone coming and going into the lobby was literally right below our master bedroom windows, as such it was tremendously noisey most all the time. The resort offered a free breakfast which we did not go to but this, too, was offered in the main lobby therefore all those going for the free breakfast (and there were many) were coming and going from around 7:00a.m. through it's completion or ending at around 10:00a.m.! Again I must reiterate it was tremendously noisy to say the least. The queen bed in the master was extremely uncomfortable and the first night there had sheets that appeared to be meant for a full size bed. We went to the lobby first thing on day one and asked them to please get fitted sheets for the bed as what were on it presently were not right. They did address this promptly with housekeeping. We were with belief from what was read about the penthouse - it would be on its own floor and with a large balcony boasting the best view of the entire property. That might be true view wise as it was quite beautiful but the balcony was rather small and anything but secluded (actually right off the parking lot); in fact a resting patio outside the lobby was right below the balcony as well. Bottom line for the $317.00US+ a night while not the worst place was surely not what it was believed to be via brochure and conversation and not worth it simply stated.

This is an excellent place to stay if you desire nice, clean, quite lodging with excellent service and a fantastic view. It is a bit off the beaten track (several blocks off Route 42, but is right on Green Bay and there is NO street noise. The owners and staff are super friendly and always willing to "go the extra distance" to satisfy a customers specific needs. Most of the folks who stay there are "over 55 mature adults" and you will meet some very nice, courtous old fashioned folks there. We have stayed there three times now and will return next time we visit Door County.

We loved all the amenities ~ row boat, tennis, hot tub & pool (outside only), bikes, etc. If the weather is good, it could be a fun time.

As far as the rooms: for the price of $118 a night it was not worth it. When checking in we were offered an upgrade to $168 room and decided not to spend the $50 extra. We do not recommend staying in the $118 room. It was outdated, small and stuffy. As far as the other rooms, we didn't see them.

The lake is at least 1 city block long down a steep hill. So for the physically out of shape it is a challenge.

We also loved the friendly and helpful staff. When we requested a refund in order to leave a day early they did give it to us.

First time in Door County area and my husband and I really enjoyed ourselves. The Country House Resort had beautiful grounnds. There was a great walking trail down to the water. I would not suggest swimming in the lake. It was a rocky beach. The pool however was very nice with a nice hot tub. Our room was huge. It was a loft unit that had a queen bed and it's own bath. There was a living area, small bar area and a room with a king bed and bath. It would be great for two couples. I did think it was a little expensive. The decor was really dated! But the room was extremly clean and the beds were so comfortable. There were six fluffy pillows on each bed.
We ate at a wonderful restuarant called "Mission Grille". They had a great covered porch and food. We would most likely go back.
