“The cute bartender did it for us!”
Reviewed August 19, 2014

Mexican/ not mexican...kind of mexican american bistro. Everything was just ok, but the service of Kayla (?) was great! SHe was very accommodating, and made the trip in fun for us. It was a beautiful day, so we wanted to sit outside. The strange thing is, is that they boxed up all our food...to go style and sent us on our way to the back dock. There was another bar down there. The bartender was equally as nice, but eating out of a to go carton after spending close to 100 dollars on all that, just wasn't my style.

“As bad as ever”
Reviewed August 18, 2014 via mobile

I'm not a fan of JJ's and yesterday confirmed why. This place pretends to be a restaurant (Mexican??). Taco salad was chips (?), lettuce, shredded chicken and a few stray pieces of tomato. We ordered guacamole and refried beans additions, listed on the menu. Beans came in a separate bowl; we asked they be put under the lettuce, but were told "we don't do that". Tacos went back to the kitchen TWICE as they were just shells with a little shredded meat in them. J J - you ought to be ashamed of calling yourself a restaurant!

“Nice mexican alternative.”
Reviewed August 15, 2014

We vistred the Jacksonport location - food was very good, fast service, nice menu selection. Margarita was outstanding. Heads up - really best for adults, too noisy and adult environment for pre teen agers. Prices were modest for the area. We would return without the kids next time.

“No go! This is why we love trip advisor!”

A local from door county suggested this restaurant after answering my question of "any good Mexican food around here?"
His response was " JJ's La Puerta and they have good burgers too!"
Well my friends this is why we have each other and this website. We are not locals and are here on vacation.
My party ordered from both menus Mexican and American.
Their burgers are good however tiny. The burgers resembled the size of a Hawaiian roll. My suggestion is to please increase the size of the bun and fill it!
The Mexican food lacked the typical Hispanic spices. Meats usually have a distinct flavor due to a marinade or sautéed recipe. Ours did not have the flavors - it was very bland. They offered a bottled hot sauce, we had to request a not hot sauce for the table. The salsa was a tiny, tiny bowl of Canned tomatoes with onions. It lacked cilantro and other spices that make salsa real salsa.
I hope this actually helps the owner realize if you say you have Mexican food... Great go for it and do it justice.
Positive side: waitress was great.
Chips are extra!
It is a popular spot for the locals next to a dock. I'm happy for the locals but because I so enjoy different foods and travel a bit, it does not get my recommendation. I hope the owners accept this as constructive criticism.

“Nothing special”
Reviewed August 13, 2014

This place can take large groups so we went there with ten of us. It is a typical "move them in" and "move them out" kind of place. Waitresses were overburdened with too many tables. Margaritas were weak in both flavor and alcohol. Stick to the beer! For most of us, the salsa was too hot to enjoy. Food was ok but nothing special.
