“Great vacation at a midwest jewel”
Reviewed July 25, 2014

Stay was from 7/19 to 7/24. We had a 2 bedroom villa facing the lake. Our party was 3 adults, 1 17 yr old, and 3 children. The accommodations were excellent and the view of the lake was breathtaking. The pool was great and the indoor water park was a hit for the kids (and the adults). No problems with any "neighbors" - each "building" has 4 units. I would recommend that the resort do a daily "beach" sweeping. The lake not having tides means the sand keeps accumulating bird and lake waste. Biggest negative was the temperature of the lake - direct result of the 2013-14 nasty winter. Maybe its warmer after a mild winter.

Sheboygan has some very good restaurants. We had excellent meals at Rupp's and Field to Fork.

Room Tip: Get rooms that face the lake.

Our family has stayed here on a tour around lake michigan. Great hotel. Restaurant was fine and there was more choice. Pool is amazing for children. I'm writing this review from Wisconsin Dells. Compared to here everything was clean, plenty of lifeguards. over all my compliments! We would have liked to stay longer. Around the hotel are some shops and restaurants. You can fish on the south pier. Rods are available in the hotel. There is a nice shopping street where the shops are. area is nice and clean.

Room Tip: pool entrance is on the first floor. restaurant, bar and lobby on 2nd. West side of the hotel is qui...

Just returned from a 3-night stay in a 4 bedroom villa overlooking the lake. We vacationed with our 2 kids, their spouses, and our 4 grandchildren that range in age from 1yr.-8. All of us had a blast. We have already booked our trip back for next July--but this time we will be staying 4 nights instead of 3 because none of us were really ready to come home after 3 nights. The best part is the choice of the beach, the outdoor pool, or the indoor waterpark. We utilized it all and enjoyed every minute of it.
The only reason I gave this resort 4 stars instead of 5 was a bit of a housecleaning issue. We have 2 crawlers among the group and they both managed to find some remnants of past occupants of the villa under the couch in the living room--some cheerios and gummy bears. Luckily (hopefully!) we caught them in time before they were able to put anything foreign in their mouths. Our son and son-in-law ended up moving the couches and sweeping up underneath them to get rid of whatever was there. The couches were heavy and hard to move, but I think housekeeping needs to somehow address the situation of cleaning underneath them after each move-out.
Other than that--it was a definite 5-star stay. We are all looking forward to our return trip next summer.

Room Tip: Pay the extra money for a lake view--it is well worth it.

We were put in an "upscale" condo ~ $350/day. Inside nice. Trash including empty beer bottles and propane cans stacked around entrance! Upstairs unit had 11 children (limit in brochure 4) who were total barbarians and ran and jumped all night! Maid service only if you called for it. Public access within 10 feet of entrance with families camping and cluttering the view. View spectacular from 2nd floor but dismal from first floor. Ball thrown into windows of condo by people using public beach. Children looking into windows and knocking on glass. No security patrolling grounds. Legal release included not being able to get redress, even in situations of gross negligence.

Not worth the money! Not restful!

Avoid

Room Tip: Avoid this resort. Hotel rooms above the second floor have the best views.

A 3 hour drive and you're there. Right on Lake Michigan. There is "sort of" a beach, but not really. We walked down and it was full of dead fish. There had been a very big storm a couple of days before, which tells me that the resort doesn't really want patrons to use this. ( no sweeping of sand like other resorts on a waterfront). Nice pool, pleasant staff, and a great Italian restaurant across the street. The one negative was housekeeping cleaned our room, but did not take care of dirty dishes or provide new toiletries. It was our 26th anniversary and staff put a cute sign on our door and gave us free dessert with our dinner, a very nice and appreciated touch.
We will return, for it is nice to be on Lake Michigan and not having to be in a big city.
We would go there a

We spent 2 nights there in a two room courtyard side condo! The condo was very nice and spacious the kids loved the bunk beds. My parents loved the second room with a conjoined bathroom for privacy. My husband and I both complained about the bed in our room it was not very comfortable definitely could use a replacement. It was very quiet even with many other families around.
We really enjoyed the waterpark it was great for a three year old and a 9 year old. Both kids loved the children's area as well where they made tie-die shirts. Courtney was awesome and very friendly. We also enjoyed the camp-fire and s'mores the first night there. The beach area was nice and right by our condo. Resort is within walking and or a quick drive to many restaurants that were better and cheaper than on site ones. A cheaper breakfast option on site would be great though!! Great place will definitely go back!

Our family visited Blue Harbor for a long family weekend staying Thurs through Sunday. There were 9 of us in total...my 3 adult children with their spouses and our 4 year old grandson, myself and hubby. We wanted room to spread out and generally enjoy upper end properties. For this reason we decided to splurge on the lake view Presidential Suite. The suite had a full well stocked kitchen with countertop/bar stools, dining table (we didn't use this, private balcony with seating for 2?), large living area with wall mounted television. The living room had 2 sofa sleepers and 2 side chairs for seating. Could have used another sofa. Did not use these for sleeping. Best part about the whole suite were the tall windows with a beautiful lake view. These suite are also located on a private area on the 4th floor which made for a very quiet environment. There is a gas fireplace which was nice the 1st night since it was unusually chilly.

The master suite was nice sized with a private bathroom/shower. There was a whirlpool tub in the room which we didn't use. The king bed was semi comfortable. For some reason everyone in our party complained about back pain in the mornings but the beds did appear to be in good condition with nice sheets. There were 3 other queen size bedrooms. All bedrooms had smaller wall mounted tv's. We put a roll away in 1 room for my grandson. He could have slept on the sofa bed but this option seemed better since we could put him to bed earlier. These rooms were smaller than I anticipated but still okay. All of the bedrooms/baths were quite dark/no windows and bad lighting.

Besides the master bath, there was another full bath with a tub shower combination and a half bath. With so many adults, we had to shower in shifts. At this price ($1300 per nite), If we were so inclined to visit again, we would probably go with another room configuration. We did like being in the main building for convenience & would not have booked the condos for that reason.

We went to the closest grocery store for perishables after arrival. We did bring snacks and drinks so the kitchen was a nice convenience. It also had a Kuerig coffee maker which we have at home. They did provide an initial stock of coffee/tea pods and creamer but being a coffee addict I also brought some. There was also an initial supply of water, both diet and regular soda and a large bag of assorted snacks compliments of BH. Nice welcome touch. All dishes, cups, silver, knives, can opener, wine opener and pots and pans supplied along with a microwave.

Suite is showing some wear and tear but was basically in good condition. Housekeeping was excellent & extremely friendly/helpful!!

The Waterpark is nice although, as we knew ahead of time, geared towards young children. My grandson loved it! We did rent a cabana one day. I would not recommend doing this as it is overpriced and there is plenty of seating. They are just not worth the cost. You get a couple of padded chairs (you will probably be in the water anyway), a television, table, frig stocked with water. Didn't need the privacy. The cancellation policy is 72 hours so check it out prior to be sure you really want it. The arcade was great fun for our grandson. He took his uncles down with him to try to win an Angry Bird stuffed animal. I am sure they more than paid for the thing 10 times over before they finally won it!!

The outside pool is heated and although small for the size of the resort, still nice. We spent most of our time there. Food can be ordered from your lounge chair and the service was friendly and great. The resort grounds are lovely. We all enjoyed walking the lakeside paths and exploring. Again, the views are gorgeous.

We ate at Latitude once. Suffice to say, in our opinion this restaurant was outrageously overpriced for what you get. The food was overcooked, service bad (spilled drinks more than once) orders incorrect....just plain bad. This was without a doubt our biggest disappointment during the whole trip. We don't mind paying a premium price for a good meal. Unfortunately this meal didn't come even close to qualifying. Perhaps it was a bad night but it honestly was so bad we stopped, pointing out the mistakes...we just wanted to leave. We also ate at Beacon a few times. Service was much friendlier & professional. I am afraid if Blue Harbor doesn't improve in the food service department they will lose business. For what you are paying in room rates, you should be able to get a good meal. In all fairness, the restaurants were very kid friendly. There is a Starbucks which was good. We also liked the gift shop.

For those who want to avoid the culinary mistakes we made, we can highly recommend Field To Fork for breakfast or lunch, Rupps, Black Pig and Stefanos were all excellent in both service and food quality.

Will we return......mixed feelings. Probably not as a whole family or a couple. Maybe in a different room category if we were just taking our grandson since he had a ball. BH has potential. And is great for families with young children. It could be so much more given a few changes. Loved Sheboygan as a town!!!! Sorry for being long winded but hope I've given food for thought for future travelers.

Room Tip: Go for a lake view if you can swing it. Just beautiful!
