Chef Tom does an outstanding job of preparing gourmet food in a beautiful atmosphere. When in season, the Parmesan crusted sea bass is to die for. Another favorite is Pork Athena.

Had dinner there 7/28/13. Excellent. I'd give it a fifth star if the otherwise tasty cream of chicken soup had not been a bit too salty. (For some reason North Woods restaurants seem to love sodium in their soups.) The walleye was very tender, no bones, and tasty, best I've ever had. Service first-rate. I'll come back often.

Dear henryis,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your experience at the Three Coins Restaurant. The good words mean more than you can imagine. I am glad you mentioned that you had too much salt in your soup. It is something that I have noticed, and we will have our kitchen work on keeping the sodium level down. Salt can be added, but not taken out! It is an excellent contructive comment.

Sincerely,
Kari Z.

We go here every year and the food is always excellent, the ambiance great and the service is usually good. Sadly, this year, while the food was still good, the service was slow and generally unprofessional, not what I had come to expect from a relatively expensive place. Hopefully it was only a one-night fluke, but the server knew little about fine dining and the delays were so long that at one point I had to walk up to the bar and request drink service. The chef came by as he always does, but this time the owner's daughter also appeared so they must have had some idea. We thought maybe it was only us (a party of six), but when leaving a customer in the parking lot called out sarcastically "how did you like the service?" suggesting that he too was displeased. A restaurant as good as this one doesn't want this to happen, I'm sure, but bad service and an unprofessional and inexperienced wait staff can be very annoying. Looking forward to trying again next summer---and hopefully good service will be back.

Dear VA traveller,

Thank you for taking time to share your dining experience at Three Coins Restaurant. We are glad that your visit in July was not what you have come to expect. It is certainly not what we want either! For a short summer season we do hire new staff. It is critical that new staff be properly trained, and we did not meet your or our own expectations on the evening you were with us.

Please come again. We will be sure to deliver good, professional service.

Sincerely,
Kari Z.

If Chef Tom has it as his special, you will not go wrong! Beautiful Lake Thompson Sunsets and just look out the windows to see the deer.

The Three Coins Restaurant has been a Rhinelander mainstay for many years. Situated in a beautiful forest setting the attractive dining room offers good food to complement the sylvan setting. Since Chef Tom came on board several years back food has been consistently tasty. I have dined at Three Coins for midweek meals, special event celebrations (two New Year's Eve dinners), local WXPR-radio fundraisers, and have repeatedly enjoyed the Friday night buffets.

This is northern Wisconsin...portions are AMPLE! Just as at one's Grandma's house, up north they like to feed people so one does not go home hungry. But besides offering abundant food, the meals served at Three Coins are genuinely tasty. Menu and buffet selections are varied with something to please everyone from red meat afficionados to fish lovers.

The bar area is pleasant with nice views of the clearing and nearby woods. Often a relaxed herd of browsing deer can be seen venturing out onto the grassy lawn next to the restaurant/lounge.

Each time we have dined at Three Coins the owners have greeted my husband and me as warmly as they treat our local Rhinelander dining companions who frequently accompany us at Three Coins. This is typical, friendly Northwoods hospitality at its best.
