My brother and I went to John's Dock late on a Friday evening (after 8pm). We were seated right away and had a very attentive waitress as the place wasn't too busy.

I always get lake perch at least once when I go back to Racine (as it doesn't seem to exist in my area of New York). John's Dock didn't disappoint. There was a good amount of lake perch for the cost (honestly I could always eat double what they bring out).

Atmosphere is your typical bar so it's not a place to impress a new date -- unless he/she appreciates the food.

I'll start by saying that the view is fantastic. It's just about the only thing that is fantastic about this place.

I used to frequent this bar. Sometime over the winter all of the good bartenders and servers left this place. They were just about the only thing that kept people going back.

The owner is a belligerent drunk, The food is sloppy, the bar is dirty, and the service is god awful.

My wife and I visited last week on one of the first nice days. We picked a table outside and waited more than five minutes for someone to approach us. The young man serving us was nice enough but seemed a little off.

I asked for a bottle of Miller Lite and my wife ordered a water. He took ten minutes to return and only had the water with him. He assured me my beer would be out shortly and walked away even though we were ready to order. Five minutes later somebody else brought my beer and also didn't take our order.

We were one of three small groups sitting outside. They were not even busy.

By the time he got back to take our order we needed refills. We both ordered whiskey burgers done medium. He didn't bring our drinks until the food was ready. My burger came out well done. My wife's was done properly, though. We ended up splitting hers and leaving mine on the table.

We figured it wasn't worth it to complain because at the rate our server was moving it would be snowing again before we got the problem fixed.

His eyes were blood shot and he seemed very flustered.

Also he took the garbage across the street and then came to check on us before even pretending to wash his hands.

Not that he could have because there was no handsoap in the restroom.

We will not be returning. The view is great but I'd rather cook my own burger and eat it on the beach. I'll take that view over John's musty dock any day.

Johns Dock is trying to do the right things to attract customers but the quality of the kitchen output has dropped this past summer. The live music has slid to more of a "do I have to listen to this?"
