Kind of an upscale version of a Culver's (who actually also runs this restaurant) - Prairie Du Sac contains Culver's Corporate Headquarters and is the location of the very first Culvers.
Similar to other Culvers, you order at the counter, then they prepare and deliver your food to you. However, menu is a bit more upscale and is served on China. Service was great with friendly staff.
I had the Jumbalya ($8.99) - it was very good if you like spicy dishes - had chunks of chicken, shrimp and andouille sausage in it along with onions, peppers, and, of course, rice. Very well seasoned - didn't even need the Tobasco they brought with the dish. Good as any I have had in New Orleans. Also included a hard roll with butter.
My wife had the special - pulled pork on a grilled roll topped with cole slaw and Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ Sauce. Served with kettle chips.. She raved over the cole slaw.
With drinks our bill was around $21.
Great three-tier outdoor seating overlooking the Wisconsin River if the weather is nice. Bit chilly for us but there were folks still braving it.
Our friends had the chicken-salad (which is one of the cafe's most popular dishes) and the Reuben Sandwich which they both said was excellent.
We all had the gelato for dessert. They must have had at least a dozen flavors.
The Cafe also serves burgers and many deli sandwiches and salads, Also serves deep dish pizza.
Have a complete breakfast menu including pancakes, french toat, and eggs benedicts. Also have monthly wine tasting events.
Definitely worth the drive.
