We have toured quite a few mansions in the United States and this one is by far the best we have visited. The mansion is beautiful and the renovation is just unbelievable, with 90% of the furnishings original it just adds to its authenticity. The guide was very interesting and spoke with great passion and pride as she made us feel like we were in the 1800's, she was very knowledgeable about the family history as well as the history of that era. Was a great tour and we would recommend it to everyone that is in the area or even thinking about going there, it would be first on our "to do" list.

I had visited Villa Louis on a family trip as child, and was fortunate to be able to revisit it with my Mother. The property has just undergone an extensive renovation and is really beautiful. Our tour guide, Mary, was appropriately dressed in period costume and, if there was something she didn't know about the property, we couldn't tell. She could answer every single question put to her and was a wealth of wonderful tidbits about the house, the family, and the era. We were lucky enough that our party of 4 were on the tour alone so we weren't rushed in any way and could really take time to view the rooms and ask plenty of questions.

Note: no photography is allowed in the home, but you can get a lot of great pictures outside and in the old ice house building and preservation building. Don't forget to take a drink from the one of the artesian wells!

We enjoyed this tour so much! The guide was wonderful and dressed up and spoke at a perfect level for our kids and the grown ups. Every one of us learned so much and felt like we were back in the 1800s seeing the wonders of a wealthy family. It was a perfect length tour to get a lot out of it and yet keep it interesting. Lots of us said "wow!" throughout the tour. This is a MUST DO in the area.

I was on the last tour of the day for the Villa Louis and received a thorough introduction to the Dousman family as well as a great tour through a beautiful home. The tour guide was very informative and happy to answer questions. It was very interesting to hear the generational history of the family and see the changes that occurred along the way. A special treat was that one of the other guides who had finished her tour was playing the Steinway concert grand piano when we entered the home. What a beautiful way to welcome us into the home and introduce us even more to the uniqueness of the Villa. I really liked the wrap around porch and how it adds another living space to the home. The grounds are lovely, but I didn't walk around too much since it was close to closing time for the Villa Louis. It is a good place to learn about the history of this area and the numerous photos on display are very informative. What is also interesting is that the Villa Louis has not experienced any flood waters inside the main home although a large portion of the area around the Villa has seen Mississippi flood waters over the years. It is built on an old mound which raises it up from the surrounding landscape.
