“Unsurpassed Hospitality”

Rita + Dave Nelson are 2 of the best innkeepers we have ever encountered. They are there when you need them while also providing privacy when you don't. Their breakfasts are gourmet, from the homemade bread toast, to the crepes topped with lemon curd, along with spinach frittatas-these were just a few of the specialties we were served during a 3 night stay the end of July. The bedrooms are beautifully furnished, as are the common rooms. Guests have all the comforts of home-and then some! They have been running this inn for about 12 years and clearly love doing so. We would return again with no hesitation, it's a wonderful inn.

I've been to several B&Bs over the years, but this one is at or near the top of the list. Everything is beautiful but liveable. Owners are warm, welcoming and generous. Every detail is attended to. The breakfasts are a nice variety of small portions of homemade goods that are delicious, including homemade bread from homeground wheat, etc. The location at the top of a hill overlooking the bay is beautiful and convenient for walks into town. This is a perfect place for a romanctic getaway!

Just back from a trip to Michigan & Wisconsin where we stayed a couple of nights in the Port Washington Inn.

Our room was Grace's Suite which was on the first floor and had a sitting area and private balcony as well as bedroom and shower-room. From the balcony you could see down to Lake Michigan and Port Washington's art-deco lighthouse - we enjoyed sitting there with a glass of wine in the sunshine, watching the world go by.

The room was furnished with antiques in keeping with the rest of the house, which is beautifully maintained by hosts Rita and Dave. Perhaps because it was an antique, we found the bed to be a bit on the small side but comfortable nevertheless.

The breakfast was delicious, with home-made granola, toast and spreads plus local sauasages, fruit and yoghurt. We ate so much we didn't have room for lunch!

Rita and Dave have thought of everything to make their guests' stay pefect, from the huge selection of videos available to borrow and the handy refrigerator on the landing stocked with water & soda, down to bug spray & umbrellas waiting at the back door - just in case!

  • Liked — private balcony, free wifi access, delicious breakfast
  • Disliked — bed was a bit small

Dorthys room
Stay for six days in this very pleasant room comfortable bed very clean and nicely decorated in a victorian style in keeping with the house.
We liked the convenience of the tea/coffee/fridge facility on the landing outside our room and all the home made touches especially the toast/cakes.A good location two minute walk down the hill to the lake.
note: the main street is in the middle of a refurbishment to be completed in June this did not give us any problems but might do others.
Dave and Rita were exceptionally good hosts would stay here again this is one of the best B/B we have stayed in.

We loved our weekend at the Port Washington Inn. The inn itself is beautiful, with nicely decorated (but not luxe) rooms. Our "Top of the World" suite gave us the entire third floor to play in. I'm often a bit weird about staying in B&Bs because I perceive everything as more shared and public, but the privacy in our suite could not be topped.

The town is sleepy and pretty and, above all, quiet. Breakfasts were also great, and the innkeepers were friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend the Port Washington Inn, and plan to go back soon for another weekend away from Chicago.

Though we've both traveled extensively, and stayed in some beautiful places throughout the world, this was our first experience staying at
a bed & breakfast. It will be the first of many, thanks to the wonderful experience we had at the Port Washington Inn.

We easily chose our suite and booked our stay through their web site.
They were responsive and friendly to our inquiries, and answered every question we had. I have some unique travel problems due to my height and health, and they made all the arrangements smooth as silk.

The inn itself, a 100+ yr old home just three blocks from Lake Michigan, is a fabulous place. Dave & Rita, the owners, have restored
it beautifully, with modern conveniences mixed seamlessly with traditional elegance. But as nice as the place is, the people are even better. When our plans changed mid-trip, they arranged for an early arrival and went far above and beyond to greet us and meet our needs.

Prior to the trip, I had heard the 'breakfast' part of b&b described as everything from continental to gourmet. The meals here certainly fell into the latter category, with unique, healthful and delicious menus each morning. Fresh fruits, outstanding baked goods...I can't say enough good things about it. I'd have paid for a couple night's stay just to hang around Rita's kitchen and steal a couple recipes!

We stayed five nights at the PWI, and loved every moment. We had a bit of stress in our travels to Wisconsin, but it went away as soon as we arrived at this tranquil spot. Dave & Rita are incredibly friendly, warm and hospitable, without ever being intrusive. The perfect hosts.

We planned our trip to visit a family member in the Port Washington area. There's a chance she'll be moving to a new locale as soon as next year, and we'll go see her there. But, family or not, we'll make trips to Port Washington in the future just to stay at this beautiful place with these wonderful people.

  • Disliked — nothing to dislike, other than that we had to come home

We were looking for a very easy, simple and relaxing weekend away from the city and found it at this Bed and Breakfast. We looked for quite a few days to find the right inn to visit and came across Rita and Dave's website, which we found to be the best looking offering. The handsomeness of their website was readily apparent at their inn. Dave and Rita are keepers of a simply beautiful home and seemingly find great enjoyment in offering their hospitality to their visitors.

The home was simply spotless, from every room that they let us visit to the common areas to their recently completely remodeled kitchen (which is fully rated by the state as a restaurant-class kitchen). The full breakfasts were simply delicious and well made (the care taken is readily apparent) and the conversation among the other guests and the owners was charming.

The home is centrally located in downtown Port Washington, atop the hill that overlooks the central business district and the lake. The views are spectacular; the walks to the restaurants and lounges in Port are short (even in the freezing winter). The bucolic setting in a simple town is a great annecdote to the hustle of the city. Highly recomended, we will be staying again.
