“What an amazing find!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2014

Stopped here on Valentine's Day while snowmobiling with a dozen or so friends and family. We were greeted warmly, and even offered space to put all of our helmets, jackets and gloves that was out of the way and warm.

Lunch was fantastic - a huge selection of panini sandwiches, which all came with chips, fresh red grapes, an orange slice and a strawberry. All of the fruit was so fresh and tasty - hard to find in Wisconsin in February! Some had bowls of clam chowder, and some opted for fish instead of paninis. Everyone was very, very pleased with their lunch.

Service was warm and welcoming and QUICK. The entire group was served and done in less than an hour. We commented today on our drive home from the weekend that we are going to make a point to go over there by car sometime again soon, perhaps when the snow leaves us.

The restaurant itself is in a gorgeous log home, and decorated beautifully. We commented on how we could easily move in and stay forever!

“Good food, warm, friendly service in charming place.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 19, 2013 via mobile

This is the sort of place that bustles with happy returning customers. The food is consistently good whether you go for breakfast, lunch or their Friday dinner. Friday dinners are known for the delicate fish fry served in ample proportions, with a choice of homemade German potato salad, or other potatoes and homemade fresh coleslaw. You can also order other things from their ample menu(walleye, coconut shrimp, burgers etc.).

Each dish is prepared with care in an immaculate kitchen. As you dine, you look out at a scenic small lake tucked in between the pine trees. The service is always warm and friendly and the pricing makes this place easy to afford. The desserts are made locally and include a variety of pies.

Occasionally there is a play and dinner special. You have a specially prepared dinner then are either transported, or you can walk up a small hill to a theater building. The people who own and run, and/or serve at the Hill 'O Beans perform in regionally written funny/slapstick plays.

You can also rent cabins in this charming place. It is a wonderful place to relax and experience the kind of care, friendly attention to detail and good food, that we wish all restaurants and resorts had.

“Excellent food, quaint setting, service could be better”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 28, 2013 via mobile

Tried Hill of Beans on a Friday night for their recommended fish fry. although it was busy, we got a table right away. It took a while to see a server, but the food was excellent. I had the coconut shrimp, which was excellent. You can tell they put a lot of effort into the food they prepare, down to the obviously home-made marbled rye bread. the sweet potato fries I ordered were too done, but my friends had the herb encrusted potato wedges which they said were excellent. This place is a hidden gem, set in the woods near Timms Hill, we plan to visit again when the fall colors are at peak. Well worth the drive!
Warning: no alcohol is served but you can BYOB and they will happily serve it.

“Fabulous Paninis”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2013

We stopped here while visiting the high point of Wisconsin. Pleasantly surprised. It was pretty crowded but we got a table. Friendly service and great paninis. Would definitely suggest stopping if you are in the area.
