Great location, close to everything. The highway runs right in front of the hotel, but our room faced the back and it wasn't a big deal. The full hot breakfast was a nice surprise since we were only expecting rolls and cold items. The rooms were fine - nothing special and maybe a bit dated. Ours was well cleaned. It seems expensive for what you get, but it's all about location location location. Everyone that we had contact with was very friendly. They have a nice outdoor dining area that is open for guest use when it's not used for meals. The pool was kind of dirty, enough so that we elected not to swim. Overall, it was a decent hotel in a good location. Unless they open up a Hilton in New Glarus, I'll be staying here next time.

Room Tip: Rooms in the back are quieter.

New Glarus is at the hub of some nice biking trails but that's not all! You can stay in an excellent rendition of a Swiss chalet, eat more Swiss food than you have room for, and visit a state-of-the-art craft brewery (New Glarus Brewery).
Chalet Landhaus has been here since 1980 and has a picturesque look that will make you comfortable and relaxed. The staff are friendly and will help you find things you'll enjoy doing in the area. It's a great place to stay for a couple of days if you bike and will be on the trails (sugar River and Badger State) during the day. Earn those beers!

We were a little homesick for the Alps and spent two weekend nights at the Chalet Landhaus. If your imagination can transform the surrounding, gently-sloped hills into mountains, if you are able to ignore any summer humidity, and if you encounter friendly people, this can work as a substitute for an Alpine experience.

Our room was very clean and everything in good working order. As others have observed, WiFi did not function in the room. The air conditioner was indeed loud but it helped drown out any outside noise. In the mornings, we enjoyed the jacuzzi and pool (in-door). On the first evening, we dined outside at the hotel, and on the second night at the New Glarus Hotel (same owner). In both places, the food was very good and up to Swiss standards. The weekend breakfast buffet had little variety, just a step above a Holiday Inn Express.

All in all, we were happy and plan to come back with friends.

Room Tip: All rooms with balconies face the street side.

Our experience seemed a bit better than most who described it as "average" and I would have given a rating of 4 except for one thing that really annoys me - the hotel advertises WiFi but the signal was so unreliable in the room that we had to go to the lobby to use it. This would have been a real problem if I'd needed to work. A pricey hotel nowadays should have enough wireless routers to serve all its guests. Why lose customer ratings for something so easy to fix? Otherwise, it's a good-sized hotel, three floors, two main connected buildings, clean, comfortable room, though dimly lit for reading. Buffet breakfast good. Location convenient with a 5-minute walk into the small New Glarus tourist/restaurant district. Pool seemed small and busy with kids, so didn't use it. Service at the front desk and in the restaurant was friendly.
Hotel restaurant was OK but I recommend the "Glarner Stube" restaurant in town for both food and atmosphere.

Room Tip: Elevator didn't go to third floor in our building, and tall people would have trouble with the low sloping roof of our third-floor room, especially in the shower. Neither were a problem for us.

Checked into our room and realized that the sink faucet was broken. We could only get warm and hot water and was unable to turn the knob to get cold water. Called the desk and they said they didn't have any one on the property to fix it and it would mean calling a plumber. They offered for us to go down to the desk and get a couple of bottles of water! (which they gave us a couple of dollars to get from the pop machine dispenser!) We wouldn't have minded the broken bathroom sink faucet if we would have been offered a slight discount on our room--with taxes, etc., we paid over $150.00 and didn't have a sink faucet that worked. I don't think our request was that unreasonable, but after many eye rolls by the desk attendant as to why we weren't happy with the bottled water solution, they offered a future night stay with them--sorry, but not interested! The rooms are tired and in definite need of updating. And when they said they were going to be sold out the night we checked out, that tells me they were going to sell that room with a broken faucet again! A summer tourist area, full houses, but no engineering staff on site?! Sorry--not worth the cost of the room we had to pay!
