“A Swiss Oasis in Wisconsin”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

We were very impressed with the cozy yet clean and modern room with a King sized bed - great for sleeping and a wide range of TV channels.

The Old World but modern decor gave it a special feel. We were disappointed that we were unable to rent bikes or get any help from the hotel in sourcing bikes. Too bad, because an outstanding bike trail trial is built upon an old rail bed just a short walk from the hotel. We found a good soul who let us use his bikes on the trail.

The continental breakfast in a nice dining room was quite good and included in the room fee. Too bad the dining room and bar were not open for lunch or dinner during our visit.

The spa was excellent and we enjoyed the whirl pool, steam, and dry saunas. Nice small pool as well for the kids. A very up to date and pleasant spa facility.

We met friends at the Chalet and we all thought it was a very charming hotel. Yes, it does need some updating, but the overall charm is there. The staff is very friendly. The housekeeping staff is very honest as I left an expensive bracelet there and before I got home, there was a message to call the Chalet as they had my bracelet. At this point, I didn't even know it was missing! The breakfast was very good and we had the Thursday night Swiss cookout buffet which was excellent.

Room Tip: I would ask for a room that does not face Highway 69.

The Chalet Landhau is a very nice, independent, hotel. We enjoyed the family feel and the unique decor of this traditional Swiss hotel. It was not the typical chain. Yes it could use some updating but don't lose the charm. The staff was great and the location made it so we could walk to dinner, coffee, small shops and enjoy the town of New Glarus.

Our room was dated, but the bed was comfortable and it was clean. Our bathroom was fine. Everything worked. The only complaint I would have had was that only one bedside table had a lamp. Thankfully it it was on my side!

We stayed here because the Swiss Aire was full (our usual choice in New Glarus, as it is very nice and less expensive). The hotel was very nice and the best thing, was the Swiss restaurant downstairs, which had a buffet breakfast included in the room price. We had dinner there one night and it was excellent (cheese fondue and weiner schnitzel). The Sugar River bike trail is literally right outside the back door and they have a locked bike shed for bikes.

I have to say the previous reviews were quite accurate. As there were others in our party, each of us had a very different experience with our rooms, but we all agreed the towels and mattresses were in dire need of replacement. Lets say they have seen a lot of action. Yes the rooms are a bit outdated, but other than the linens and mattresses, they were fairly clean. The staff was hospitable, except don't ask the waitress in the bar for a menu after 8pm.

Spent two nights here. Location was great as it was close to downtown and right on the Sugar River bike trail. Our room was a bit disappointing, had a dampness that never went away, even with the AC. (Obviously an issue w/ first floor rooms as there was a dehumidifier sitting in the hallway.). Clean the light switches please, and maybe invest in new bath towels. Overall, it seems a bit pricey for the shape of the place, but options are very limited in this Swiss village.

Overall, for the price, I expect unstained towels and a shower that drains. The one is 319 does not. We called the front desk at 10 pm to notify of both issues. The gal at the front desk said she was working alone and couldn't do anything about the shower and we could come down and get more towels. Since she was alone, she couldn't bring them up. #1-for what you charge, you need more than one person working when your hotel is full. #2 - in this day and age, clean towels are expected. #3- the shower filled up so quickly it made me wonder how often it was cleaned....anyone cleaning it would have noticed....not too hard to fix. All that being said, the room is just ok, old, nice breakfast buffet on weekends. Overall hotel needs major updating. nice patio......you either need to lower your rates so folks get what they pay for or fix the simple things and update.

Room Tip: Don't stay in 319!
