“Old Swiss Charm”
Reviewed July 22, 2012

This hotel is a little older, and the lady is showing her age. It is well-maintained, but you must be aware that you are staying in a building that was probably built in the 1960's. The rooms are fine, and you are very close to town and can walk to all of the restaurants. You are also pretty close to New Glarus, but it's probably too far for you to walk.

The breakfast was amazing. We have been to France many times, and it reminded us of a European breakfast. Yogurt, granola, cheese, sausage, and lots of fresh-baked goodies were the highlights of the meal. They do a big cookout here on Thursdays and have brunch on the weekends.

It was a good value, and as long as you know it is not a brand-new facility, you should enjoy yourself.

Room Tip: Get one that faces the rear of the building. This is much quieter than those on the front.

Stayed here one night on our way to the Dells. Very charming, clean hotel. Staff was super friendly! Sunday breakfast buffet was very nice. Excellent pastry! Doubt we'll return to this area as we were passing through, but we had a nice time and the kids really liked the charm. Not a cookie cutter chain hotel, thank goodness!!

This was a good hotel for my mother and I. Mom is 85, so I requested and received a room close to the front doors and on the ground level. Breakfast was included...continental...nothing extravagant but enough. Waitress was very attentive. No dinner was available at the hotel on Monday evening.

I stayed at the Chalet Landhaus during a relocation to a new employer in the area for a total of 30 days. The staff at the front are very friendly and will do all they can to make sure you feel at home. Housekeeping is great and pick up after you if you make a mess and not complain about it. The pool area is huge and has a sauna, steam bath, and big hot tub for ultimate relaxation. The rooms are super clean, quite, and updated with flat screen TVs, mini fridge, and yes you can ask for a microwave. They have wireless Internet in the room which is supper fast and easy to get onto. When it comes time to eat they have a restaurant downstairs that offers Authentic Swiss cuisine. Oh yea they give you a free breakfast everyday too. The weekend buffet is great local meats, cheeses, and pastries. The hotel is located right in front of the main road hwy 69 and is walking distance to everything in this town. Highly recommend great hotel.

We stayed here with another couple in June 2012. I understand New Glarus is a small town and has few hotel options, but I was not very impressed with Chalet Landhaus. Our room was a pretty typical hotel room, but there was a hole in the ceiling above the shower and flakes of drywall fell into the shower. The air conditioner in the room is also very loud. All that being said, the women working the front desk was super sweet and helpful and the location of the hotel cannot be beat. Would I stay here again if I was in New Glarus?...Maybe for the location and due to the lack of options alone. But for the price, I expected a lot more.

If you want to ride the old rail line turned into bicycle trail , it runs right along the property. Obviously it's a great location for visiting New Glarus and stocking up on Spotted Cow beer. We also used it as an overnight before continuing on to Baraboo, a very scenic 1 1/2 hour drive away. We enjoyed the hot tub and the pool, though they do close on the early side- at 10 p.m. We found the staff to be willing to help at all times, but good luck getting online. Another thing- the front office closes at 10. This wasn't a problem for my husband and I as we read the sign CLEARLY posted on the door warning guests that they would need their key to get in after ten; some other people there that weekend didn't bother to read it. Their included breakfast is AMAZING- your average hotel's included continental breakfast just cannot compare in any way. My one complaint would be that they are skimpy in the towel department, although I admit I never talked to the front desk to ask for extras. They did smilingly provide two extra pillows when I asked.

Good launching pad for shops and the breweries (Minhaus in Monroe). Quaint decor, clean, friendly staff, good breakfast. We stayed before the summer rates so it was a good price. Our room was twice the size of our friends. It rained and the dripping on the air conditioner kept my wife awake, but otherwise quiet.
