“Fun, Informative, Engaging, Generous”

We decided to take a day trip to Monroe to tour the Minhas brewery - we've been on many other brewery and wine tours and found this to be the best. You can park along the street or there is a large parking lot not too far away. Pay 10 each for the tour - but this includes unlimited sampling and they are generous with their samples, a keepsake frosted glass, and a gift box that includes a sampling of beers and soda. There is a very nice sampling area to sit and relax with friends (and popcorn) - or you can check out the extensive collection of beer-related items in their store and museum areas. The tour is about 1-hour and I wouldn't recommend it for small children or someone who has difficulty with stairs. There are a couple locations where you climb stairs and you are touring a functioning facility - there are some floor hazards to be aware of. The historical references are awesome - I had no idea that the jail to work program - Huber law - originated from the relationship between the brewery and neighboring jail. I also didn't realize there were so many varieties of beer and sodas hand-crafted by this brewery. I highly recommend the tour and consider myself a new repeat customer for thier brand.

I made my second visit to this great brewery in November of 2012. They start you out and end you up in the bar where they serve full glasses of their wonderful beers. The tour is very cool and well worth the drive from Northern Illinois. We stayed at a hotel so that we didn't have to go far after our night of drinking!

“Best Brewery/Winery Tour There Is”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2012

This past Sunday four (my wife and I, daughter and son-in-law) of us went to the Minhas Craft Brewery in Monroe, Wisconsin for the tasting and tour. We have previously visited the New Glarus Brewery and Coors Brewery in Golden, Co and the Wollersheim, Wiggy and Bonham wineries. All are very good tours, but this one was the best. We arrived around 12:20 for the 1:00 PM tour and shortly after were asked to join the guide in the tasting room. There were about seven draft beers and draft root beer on tap. In addition there were bottles of 3 or 4 more beers that Minhas brews and additional soda flavors. The tasting was unlimited before and after the tour. The guide, Susan, was knowledgeable with a great personality that made the tour and tasting seem like you were with a group of close friends and not strangers. Each of the beers I tasted (9-10 out of 10-11 available) from the Chocolate Bunny to the IPA 2 were distinctive in taste and something I would drink again. Sometimes some craft beers are too strong or bitter for my tastes.

Monroe is not easy to get to, but we were really surprised by the number of people in our tour and the numbers that the guides said attended the tours on Saturday. This is definitely worth the drive from neighboring towns in Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin and I will be back.

“A Nice Find & Worth A Visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 8, 2012

While we had visited other area breweries in the past, we had not visited Minhas Craft Brewery before; a pleasant surprise and well worth a visit if you are visiting other craft breweries in Monroe, or Madison.

Perhaps not well known, they have been in opperation since the 1840's and have quite a history.

The welcome was warm and sincere. Clear from the start that the employees treat the brewery with pride and the kind of buy-in not found in just another job. We started the tour with a visit to their museum and gift store and then joined a tour of the production opperation, which was better than others we have participated in the past.

Finishing up in the tasting room, we had some fresh popcorn and sampled some of their craft beers in a frosted glass that we were later given to take home to remeber the day; a nice touch.

Before or after the Minhas tour, you can visit area shops and restaurants and will want to take home several good Wisconsin cheeses.

“Has it all!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2012

The Minhas Craft Brewery has been developed from a brewery that's been continually in business since it opened in 1845. After being acquired by two Canadian siblings about 6 years ago, it has expanded and upgraded in all areas. It pays homage to previous brewery owners by keeping their names on some of the beer (Huber Bock and several Blumers soda flavors.) The museum is made up of several rooms of memorabilia and is fascinating to spend time in. The tastings are plentiful and available before and after the tour which is at set times. The tour is informative and interesting, being given by guides that make you feel like part of the family and that they really enjoy their jobs and this company. It costs $10, but you also get a six-pack of assorted products to take home with you.
Downside: Parking is not so great, it's on the other side of the building from the tour entrance.

Monroe, WI itself is a great tourist town in the Swiss/German flavor. Great cheese plants and restuarants. It's about 25 miles north of Freeport IL and very easy to get to.
