Several friends and various reviews here all pointed to Meritage being an excellent place, so on a recent visit to Milwaukee we gave it a try.

The backyard patio was a lovely spot to sit and made us feel like we were in a great place. Our waiter was enthusiastic but couldn't answer a question we had about a term on the menu relating to what we assumed was a commitment to farm sustainability. He said he'd ask but never returned with an answer. The menu indeed is creative, and we started by sharing the ricotta and egg yolk ravioli carbonara, which was presented as one large raviolo sprinkled with wild boar bacon and peas. The edges of the raviolo were tough. The flavors were OK. For our main courses, my husband ordered the pork chop and I ordered the bison kung pao salad. My husband's pork chop was literally raw on one side and overcooked to shoe leather on the other. He had to send it back. My salad was muted in flavor and the strips of bison were stringy and flavorless.

All in all, quite disappointing.

This small chef owned restaurant is a real gem. The menu is diverse with unique dishes like the BBQ turkey stuffed onion. Great wine list at reasonable prices The value is outstanding. I have paid twice as much at other fine restaurants and the food at Meritage is some of the best I have ever had. Eating outside on the back porch was a plus.

On the border of Wauwatosa and Milwaukee sits this great chef-owned restaurant. Never been disappointed going here. An urban patio is ticked in the back.

this is a small casual neighborhood restaraunt, the ambience isnt great but the food and service definitely are great. the menu changes seasonally and they have daily specials. everthing from scatch and farm to table approach, she usues growing power greens. they have many vegetarian options as well and she will make more available if asked. I would love to eat at this place every week and its affordable and not pretentious. stop in and have an appetizer, soup, salad or entree and you will not be let down.

Had the fish special and was very pleased with the preparation and presentation. Waitstaff is very friendly and attentive without being pushy. The neighborhood is a bit grubby but seems pretty safe - a great option on the under-served west side of town. The atmosphere is decent and fairly quiet on a weeknight. Desserts are unusual and tasty.
