“Gracious and fun”
Reviewed November 8, 2011

It's great to see a couple living their dream and taking so much pride in what they do. The accomodations are absolutely lovely with every detail thought of, but it is their graciousness as hosts that really set this apart from most B & B experiences. Thank you, Laura Sue and Rick! We wish you much success, but not so much that we can't get a booking!

The stay at Schuster Mansion was a retirement gift for a sister, and worth every penny. The hosts were amazing: friendly, helpful, informative, catering to us like we were royalty. The food was excellent - better than anything I've had in a hotel, fresh and made to order with allergies taken into consideration. Our friends who stayed at hotels near the Bradley Center (about 6 minutes away) were disappointed with their "high class hotel" and noted that we had free wi-fi, dvd player with a wall of movies to select, free water and complete breakfast, coffee and choice of 20+ teas brought to our room, luggage carried in and out, and an interesting historical tour. We felt like we stayed with friends, and we plan to go again.

Room Tip: We chose by room size and preference to have a bathroom in the suite. Every room was delightfully d...

My wife and I came up from Chicago to attend a show at the Riverside Theater and decided to try something different than the usual downtown hotel. We are not regular B&B patrons but thought it would be fun. Let me tell you our stay was WONDERFUL. The accomodations were beautiful with fine attention to detail. Our hosts, Laura and Richard, could not have been nicer. They welcomed us like old friends. We decided to have our breakfast brought up to our suite and it was delicious. Their dog, Isaak an adorable Corgi, kept us company while we ate.
The house is less than a ten minute drive from downtown with plenty of free on site parking. This is not a place to miss. Thanks again!

Room Tip: The Schuster has suites large enough to handle parties of 4 or 6 people.

We chose this B&B based entirely on Trip Advisor reviews. We were hesitant when a couple reviewers said this place was located in a poor neighborhood, but when we arrived we knew immediately what the issue was... racism. Listen, just because a black person is walking down the sidewalk does not make it a bad neighborhood! This neighborhood is fine and both my wife and I enjoyed the area after dark, alone, talking to the locals.
The property is a work-in-progress restoration of an 1800's mansion. The place was very clean and the owners were amazingly accommodating. Our breakfast was different all 3 mornings and was prepared fresh at the time we chose. When the renovations are completed I will change this from a 4 to a 5 star rating. And really, the renovations didn't deter from our enjoyment of our stay. In fact, it's nice to see owners taking pride and spending money on their place!
Even the house dog, Isaac the Welsh Corgi was cute and fun to play with!
In short, we loved the place and this will be our home every time we travel to Milwaukee, period.

Even better than the on-line pix and description. Comfy, homey accommodations. Owners make you feel at home. Much better than a sterile hotel. Breakfasts are outstanding and served on your schedule, not theirs. Choc. chip cookies any time of day--addictive. Special tea blends served and they sell the dry blends so you can savor at least some of the trip after you get home. Located just a couple miles west of downtown so easy to get to museums, 3rd ward district, and trendy restaurants. Like LL commented' we'll come back!

Room Tip: 3rd flr rooms a terrific value; just be prepared to climb stairs

First time in Milwaukee. This B&B was recommended by Milwaukee Food Tours. The recommendation was spot on. Rick and Laura Sue was very warm and open. I never stopped finding something new and interesting to see in the house. We had 3 breakfasts. Each was better than the last. CC cookies were addictive. Free and secure parking a plus. Can't say enough good about visit. Quiet, clean, and comfy bed. Would recommend this place without reservation and would stay again when in Milwaukee.
Also, their place sure beats the sterile environment of a standard hotel.
BTW, go see the Bucyrus museum. Amazing story about the largest earth movers in the world.

My husband and I stayed at the Schuster Mansion B & B for five nights this August. We were greeted by Rick, who was very open, welcoming, and friendly, and answered all our questions. We stayed on the top floor of the mansion in the Lone Star Room, which is decorated with a western theme (our hostess, Laura Sue, is from Texas). The space was plenty roomy for two adults, with a small table and several chairs as well as two dressers and a small closet. The queen sized bed was very comfortable, and the room was immaculate, as was the shared bathroom. It was the end of a heatwave when we arrived, and the room heated up during the day while we were out, but the window air conditioning unit kept us nice and cool when it was time to go to sleep! Rick even offered to change out the a/c unit because one of the dials wasn't working quite as well as it might.

The mansion is a constant work in progress, with Rick and Laura Sue making improvements and doing repairs all the time, but the work was never intrusive. The rooms are all beautifully decorated and the dining area is incredible! They offer room service, for a slightly higher fee, but we didn't take advantage of that amenity. Since we stayed so long, we got to try all three breakfast options, the fruit crepe, ham and cheese strata, and "apple delight," which is a kind of bread pudding with chunks of apples, and comes with pecan French toast. All breakfasts come with tea or coffee, juice, and your choice of sausage patties or bacon, and the hosts are very happy to accomodate any dietary restrictions. I think the worst part of our stay was trying to decide what to have for breakfast each morning; all three options were so delicious!

I should make a comment about the neighborhood, since it has been brought up in a number of reviews on this site. It is indeed a transitional neighborhood, but we never felt unsafe or threatened in any way when we walked around the area surrounding the mansion. Just down the block is convenient access to a bus route, and you could walk to the Pabst Mansion quite easily from the B & B; it's only 12 short blocks away. Be sure to take a look at the mansion and its surroundings using Google map's streetview, and you can decide for yourself before booking. The location was convenient, and getting downtown only took a few minutes by car. The Schuster Mansion was a great value, with wonderful, helpful hosts and terrific food. I highly recommend it!

Room Tip: The rooms at the back of the house offered great afternoon light, and hardly any noise from the stre...
