Tucked away in a south Milwaukee neighborhood is Tenuta's, a quaint, fabulous Italian restaurant. Upon entering one is reminded of something out of the "Godfather" as you are greeted by a large bar with a room attached that contains several, inviting tables. Our server impressed us all evening with her timely visits to our table and her knowledge of each menu item and how they were prepared.
We started with a roasted cauliflower soup. A wonderful puree with a subtle taste of the vegetable.
Tenuta's has a full-service bar with a very nice selection of wines by-the-glass.
We ordered the Veal Scallopini and Chicken Piccata. Both dishes were served with sauteed spinach, oven roasted potatoes, and plenty of garlic. The Piccata was finished wonderfully with a lemon wine sauce with capers and the Scallopini with white wine sauce. Both the veal and chicken were fork tender and perfectly prepared. Portions were just right.
This is a place that when you look around you notice that everybody is very happy to be there. We also noticed an announcement on the wall that Tenuta's was voted by the readers of Milwaukee Magazine to have the best pizza in town. Many of the diners were eating that pizza served on large used, tomato cans.
Our server recommended the Tiramisu for desert, best we ever tasted.
One suggestion, make reservations. After 6:00 PM this place is full. Dinner for two with two glasses of wine, one desert and two coffees was under $70. A real bargain for the quality of the food, wine and service.
We can't wait to visit Milwaukee and Tenuta's again.
