“Fantastic view & access to lake”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2013

Beautiful area on campus that allows access to the lake - down 220 steps which people often run up for exercise. However, there is a wonderful from up top as well as a switch back path for a less energetic walk to the shore.

“Victorian homes and lovely gardens in mixed neighborhood”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2013

The best way to see these homes is during the annual Father's Day weekend home tour. If you can't, then a walk down State street in Milwaukee will give you a taste of what the homes were like in the late 1800s, and early 1900s when the wealthy had large homes, large yards, and lumber was plentiful. You can imagine, these homes are money pits. Current owners came out to talk to me as I walked through the neighborhood with a camera, eager to share local history and tell stories of chimneys deteriorating and plumbing updates. Be sure to notice the details in the decorative exteriors, round rooms, large front porches, and in many cases some beautiful gardens. Unfortunately there are also many homes in the area that are in need of repair. A few of the original mansions are now B&Bs. Feel free to ask the owners for access to these at any time, and they will likely graciously agree.
