Room was very comfortable and clean. Plentiful closet space. Only negative was small bathroom with no counter space. Great location close to Lake Michigan and halfway between downtown and Brady Street. Restaurant is a bonus. Only open for brunch. Food was excellent. Room location on first floor was convenient. Great value for the price.

If you are looking for an upscale, modern hotel keep looking. But if stepping back in time a bit is your thing, by all means give this place a try. You can really feel what it must have been like to stay in a downtown hotel in1950 - very art deco. The hotel is old and lacks some of the amenities of the 21st century (like elevators and air conditioning), but the rooms and public spaces are well maintained, neat and very clean. While our room had obviously been updated, it had not been "remodeled" (except for the kitchen area, which was very current).

The other thing I need to mention is how friendly and helpful every person on the staff we encounter was! It was really refreshing to deal with people who genuinely care.

We will be back.

I guess when Cecelia at the front desk handed us our room key (literally a key) we knew this was a different kind of hotel. It is old school all the way and that's pretty cool. We had a corner suite which was huge, bright and clean. The rooms have been redone but still have that old world charm. There was a separate bedroom with an en-suite and then a large sitting area with a pull-out and another queen bed, another 3 piece bath and a fully stocked and equipped modern kitchen. It was home away from home. The service was impeccable, the location was super - just a few minutes away from the lake and our room was fantastic. It far exceeded our expectation.

There isn't a complimentary breakfast but you do receive a discount at the Plaza Cafe. This place is incredible. We sat at the counter and it was like we went back to 1940. Breakfast was great and the coffee --- superb! Our server Hayley could not have provided better service - she was awesome! A really fun and delicious experience.

I would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay here on our next trip to Milwaukee. You won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: If you want to take advantage of the kitchen, there is a grocery store just behind the hotel. The...

My husband and I also loved the retro, art deco ambiance and vibe of this hotel! While it is old - built during the 20's I believe - it is clean, comfortable and filled with so much character! We only stayed for one night while in town to see Black Label Society at the Rave, but would have loved to stay here longer and plan on returning. We enjoyed our room which was very clean, and, though the radiator did make some noise, slept well in the very comfortable bed. Yes, the bathroom was small but there was a big vanity area right outside. I personally thought the mint green (popular art deco color) tile in the shower added to the charm of the place. The kitchen is fully stocked with glasses, dishes, silverware, even a toaster! How fun it would be to stay here for a week or more with all the comforts of home! The quiet, yet lively residential area allowed us to pretend to be city dwellers for the night. It is within easy walking distance of downtown and cabs were easy to get. I found the Plaza on TA, chose it based upon the value and reviews and we were not disappointed. We got a very reasonable rate and would much rather stay here then at some newer value, generic "cookie cutter" type hotel. The staff were helpful, welcoming and friendly (rock on, Asop!) with check in and check out being a breeze. Parking was convenient and reasonable. Unfortunately, due to limited time, we were not able to have a drink or breakfast (you are given a coupon upon check in for money off) here but look forward to both during our next stay.

Room Tip: There is no elevator and the stairs, though they add to the character of the place, may be rough for...

Like so many I picked this for the photos, The room I got bore little resemblance to the PROFESSIONAL photos or those supplied by management. The windows are dirty, the room is right out of 1920 with a 50s update attempt. There is a single light in the ceiling to give you that gangster movie feeling. Receptacles are cut into the wood work or surface mount boxes and cut into the molding around doors, floors and windows. Heating is direct from the 1900 using short floor mounted radiators that have no controls. There is no thermostat in the room anywhere. Bring your blankets as you will be chilled. The bathroom is large enough for one person to stand up in with that porcelain tile so famous in the 40s and 50s. The only thing close to new is the TV mounted on the wall and the kitchenette but don't think it will be the one in the pictures. The only things positive is the room appears to be clean and the location is good, that's it. For me, I see this as nothing short of bait and switch. There apparently are a FEW rooms like the ones you see on the Plaza website and brochures which is why you see good reviews but you have to demand those rooms or you may get something else entirely. And no, I do not see me coming back here again if conditions do not change. If you want quaint old tastefully done, go to the Milwaukee Athletic Club.

Room Tip: Get to your room before 5 pm and ask to see the room you are getting before paying for the room. DO...

Thank you for your review regarding your recent stay at The Plaza. I am sorry that your stay was not as comfortable as we would have liked for you. Our rooms have varying levels of renovations, and I apologize that we did not live up to your expectations. Plans are in the works to bring all of our rooms to the same renovation level. I encourage you to continue to keep a watch for those renovation announcements. Until then, please let me know if there's anything further that I can assist you with.

Kind Regards,
Amanda
