Oh what a lovely was to spend a lazy afternoon...amazing beer served in mega steins, German snacks, sometimes live music, picnic tables, a park for the kids, a river path to ponder on, friendly folks...and did I mention great beer?

Didn't expect a beer garden in the middle of a park. It was a perfect afternoon. Nice breeze, good beer, lots of people enjoying the area. Drank some beer, ate a pretzel with the most delicious sweet/spicy mustard, and listened to a guy play some German music. Very enjoyable.

We happened to be in Estabrook Park for a graduation party Memorial Day weekend. We saw the Beer Garden and decided to drop by. What a pleasant surprise. You can rent a glass or mug (or bring your own) and have either a Munich brew or a local craft beer for a reasonable price. Turns out you can bring your own food and there’s an adjacent playground for kids and a wide open area for Frisbee, soccer, or whatever. They had real German style pretzels (not the stadium variety).

Not sure how they schedule the music. There was an interesting 3-piece polka band when we were there. I’d never heard “Crazy On You” played on the tuba before.

There’s a stairway down to the river if you want to enjoy the view or even fish.

Estabrook Park Beer Garden is one of my favorite places in Milwaukee! The atmosphere is laid back, the beer is good, there's often live music, and there are plenty of places for kids to play - a playground and a large field - while parents relax. It's right along the river, walk over during sunset and the view will blow you away. It's also right off the bike path, ride or walk over rather than driving and don't worry about the size of those beers. They loose 1 star from me for inconsistent food. When the brats and pretzels are good, they're SO good. But, I find the quality to be hit or miss - I've had a few rock hard overcooked pretzels and some brats on stale buns. That said, it's perfectly fine to bring food in so pack a picnic (or let North Shore Boulangerie in Shorewood do it for you) and just enjoy the beer.
PS - bring cash, you'll need a deposit for the beer mug and they don't take cards.
