Our family has visited numerous Brazilian steakhouses in the past in Virginia and Illinois and this was our first time at the Rodizio Grill. We have a Brazilian daughter-in-law that we love to treat her to foods from her native land, so for Mother's Day, our family of 11 (with three toddlers) thought this would be a great place to try. We got lost in downtown Milwaukee so I called the restaurant and Neil, the host, gave us better directions and promised to save our table. We only arrived a little late and the valet parking was a tremendous help as we had three vehicles to park.
We were immediately seated and accommodations were made for highchairs for the toddlers. Our server, Ana, was superb! She was most attentive and answered any questions we had about the menu. My daughter-in-law thought she would be the only Brazilian in the place - she was pleasantly surprised to find that Ana and several of the gauchos serving the meat selections also spoke Portuguese and carried on conversations with her in their native language. We had appetizers placed on our table immediately (loved the cheese biscuits) and our drink orders taken (I requested a Mimosa for the occasion).
The buffet did not have a wide variety of selections like they do at other Brazilian steakhouses, however, what they offered was fresh, tasty, pleasingly presented and a delight to enjoy! I had fresh tomato and Mozzarella ball salad, yogurt chicken salad, strawberry salad, hearts of palm, marinated button mushrooms, corn and pea salad, and hard boiled eggs from the salad bar. The hot dishes I sampled consisted of Feijoada (traditional Brazilian black bean stew over white rice), grilled vegetables with Parmesan cheese, and sauteed collard greens with bacon They even offered fluffy scrambled eggs and bacon as we dined during the brunch period. When our three year old grandson remarked that all the strawberries were gone, Ana, left and arrived with a whole plate of sliced strawberries for him to gobble up, (how thoughtful!)
Now the meat selections: the gauchos paraded deliciously prepared cuts of meats of all kinds. I choose the Brazilian sausage, a sliver of leg of lamb, tri tip sirloin, garlic steak, turkey wrapped in bacon, sweet and spicy chicken, and a piece of the fish selection. I liked how you can request small pieces to see if you would like to request more when they come back around with the meat selection again. This restaurant was unique as my daughter-in-law discovered they were serving chicken hearts, which she had not had since she left Brazil years ago. The rest of the family did not partake, but we enjoyed watching her enjoy almost a half a skewer of the chicken hearts! Another treat is the grilled glazed pineapple - a must try!
My husband wanted desert and Ana brought out a tray of deserts for us to choose from - he chose the Royal Banana Sundae that was big enough for 4 and he shared. Must say this alone will keep you coming back.
Kudos to the management, waitstaff and chefs at Rodizio for a wonderful, Wonderful Mother's Day dining experience with our family that made memories. We will be coming back!
